The physical, emotional and the logical?

ReadyAndWilling

Fleet Captain
So I'm in the middle of watching E2 and T'Pol just mentioned that humans aren't able to separate the emotional and the physical, referring to their sexual encounter a few epsiodes earlier.

This was the first time the physical was mentioned alongside the emotional and logical. I thought the Vulcans only separated the logical and emotional?

That line made it look like Vulcans were all about casual meaningless sex (one night stands etc.). Weird, knowing that they mate for life...

Or it could be referring to the point that Vulcans have arranged marriages. Logically done by their parents with no thought given to the emotions of the future couple.

It's not that odd. T'Pol, having no cultural references to tell her otherwise, thinks that sex is merely a biological function to relieve stress (see: teaser to Fallen Hero). As far as she's concerned, when the crew's efficiency rating goes down, it must be because they are not having enough sex, because of Starfleet regs. It isn't until Harbinger that she finally gets that, for humans, there is also an emotional component to intimacy.

I second that. Going back to Spock in "This Side of Paradise," he clearly had feelings (albeit buried) for Leila (sp.?) or they wouldn't have been manifest no matter how many spores he inhaled.
