The Phantom Menace 3D Release

wait, people are going to pay to see this crap again?
Qft, man.

People are bitching about this again?

Good grief!!! Hasn't George Lucas had enough money out of us????

I know, right?! I hate it when his goons come to my house, force me to go to the movie theater to buy a ticket. Then, I just know, they will force me to go to the store and demand that I buy the blu-ray box set. Damn you, Lucas, for making me give you my money!

Oh, wait. None of that happened. I forgot, I control what I want to spend my money on.

is the 3d more expensive?

No, it is actually cheaper and they give you free popcorn. Some places even do door prizes.

People are paying for something they enjoy. These rereleases are for fans, those who don't care about them can ignore them.

Not that hard to understand.

Bingo.

People pay to eat tofu and wheat germ, too. But it's none of my business. That's the free market.

As a STAR WARS fan I dig the idea of seeing the movies in a big-screen 3-D format. I realize other people don't. It's no skin off my back if they hate the movie and don't agree with the 3-D release. I'm not going to be thinking about them, anyways. ;)

it shows how revolutionary Lucas is when it comes to do things James Cameron already did.

Lucas was revolutionary way before Cameron even started his directing career. The only reason Cameron became a director in the first place was because he saw Star Wars.

George Lucas may be a money whore when it comes to milking his STAR WARS franchise, but at least they guy isn't the raging, inconsiderate and egotistical asshole that James Cameron is. Actors might complain that Lucas always gives them difficult and strange dialogue, but at least they enjoyed working with him and most were his friends afterwards. Cameron alienates a lot of the people he works with and whips them like pack mules. I just don't see Leo DiCaprio, Schwarzenegger, Ed Harris or others being terribly warm and fond of the guy after their experiences with him. Hell, Linda Hamilton even divorced the man because he was such a bastard and so difficult to be married to.

Lucas for the win.

And Linda Hamilton even switched teams, didn't she?

Just returned from the cinema. About 50 people in a 450-seat theatre. Not too bad, considering that people were paying A LOT of money for a movie that was shown on TV six or seven times in the past decade. Plus, it's extremely cold and windy here, so people are mostly staying at home (the entire mall was a ghost town).

I'm anxious to see how it does in North America this weekend.

I won't get chance to go see it till Tuesday, but am looking forward to it. If only to relive the Darth Maul fight scene on the big screen after 13 years

Saw it this mornin', pretty sure its the blu ray version, since Yoda was CGI & not a puppet.

The 3D works well, especially for the CGI stuff (just as I thought it would). The podrace was very cool, and the space battle wasn't too terrible. I liked the lightsaber fight, too. But that's always been my favorite part...and Darth Maul's entrance at the hanger bay doors is even more pronounced with the added 3D element.

I wouldn't rush out to pay for the experience, though, and I can't seem to find anyone among my scifi geeky friends who would want to go see it with me.

Did Schwarzenegger ever talk bad about Cameron? Would surprise me, since Arnold's attitude is like "it takes pressure and heat to create a diamond".

I don't have the desire to see it, but for all the haters out there...there is one undeniable aspect:

Maul was a bad-ass and every scene with him was great.

Cameron does often encourage a lot of loyalty among some actors. Some appreciate his work ethic. Like Michael Biehn, who's worked with Cameron several times.

And Schwarzenegger and Cameron have worked together four times. And they're close friends. Schwarzenegger even asked Cameron if it was okay if he do Terminator movies without him.

I'm not passing judgement on Cameron either way, positive or negative, and none of this really matters to the topic at hand...but I just thought I'd mention it, anyway.

And everyone who bought the'ultimate' Blu-Ray set while buy it all over again. :klingon: I'm going home to play Klingon Boggle! :vulcan:

Only thing I ever bought from him were the Original Trilogy on Blu-ray, and AOTC on DVD. I never had anything SW before this. I think I had ROTJ on VHS recorded from TV.

I realize Lucas is older than Cameron. Doesn't change the fact that if Avatar hadn't become a huge hit, 3D Star Wars wouldn't be happening.

Not that I'm a huge fan of Cameron or Avatar.

If I was wrong about some of those actors and their long-term relationships with Cameron I stand corrected. But I do know for a fact that he's an extreme taskmaster on the set and Ed Harris said angrily that he'd never work with him again after a notorious incident on the set of THE ABYSS in 1989. I've heard others praise his abilities as a director but give him criticism as a personality and mention that he can be very, very difficult to get along with on the sets of his movies.

Given Arnold Schwarzenegger's monumental ego I'm not surprised he's one of the actors who gets along quite swimmingly with Cameron. Birds of a feather.

I picked the R2D2 one of these up, be warned that the pen has no cap. I liked that the plastic was matte and not at all glossy.

There's a slew of excellently-sculpted new figures hitting shelves based not only on the 3-D release of Episode I but some of the other films and the CLONE WARS animated series as well.

Did you pick up the Ben Quadrineros figure? I am sooo happy they finally made him, he should have gotten a figure a long time ago seeing as how he was a featured character in the pod race scene.

He probably established the pecking order right away by putting Cameron in a headlock.
