The Phantom Menace 3D Release

Patton's routine IS hilarious. I think he takes the prequels' problems too seriously, but Oswalt has made a career of his chubby unrepentant nerd image so he's just playing into that for laughs. My favorite part of the bit is the end when he mentions Jon Voight. No matter how much you like or hate the prequels it never fails to cause riotous laughter.

This is the new Episode I Yoda.

If you ask me, he's better than the puppet from the original version of the film. It never really looked like Yoda.

At least now the prequels are all uniform when it comes to the little green guy. Say what you want about the other changes Lucas made to his films, but this one made sense.

I always hated CGI Yoda from Episodes II and III, but the CGI Yoda from Episode I Blu-ray looks 300% better than the CGI Yoda from the next two prequels. He's not as good as the puppet Yoda from Empire and Jedi, but he blows the Clones and Sith CGI model completely out of the water, as well as the retarded puppet Yoda from the original Phantom Menace release.

I sort of agree. The CGI Yoda in CLONES is ten years old and less sophisticated looking than the new stuff that's being cranked out in big-budget films today. People tend to forget just how quickly and far CGI animation has evolved in the years since movies like the original trilogy and TRON and how it's still changing as we speak. SITH's CGI Yoda is noticeably better and less cartoony-looking but still not up to the standards of the new Yoda in Episode I. My ranking of the Yodas from most impressive to lamest:

1) EMPIRE puppet
2) JEDI puppet
3) PHANTOM CGI model
4) SITH CGI model
5) CLONES CGI model
6) original PHANTOM puppet

Holy shit, it's not really a party until cooleddie crashes it! :D I've missed you, dude.

Episode I is a flawed but good movie. I liked it thirteen years ago. I like it today. Screw the haters who think it raped their childhood. Expecting a movie made sixteen years after the last one in the franchise(which itself was a qualitative downgrade from the first two films in the series) to live up to all your glorious, diamond-encrusted expectations is asking a bit much. Hardcore STAR WARS fanboys felt that Lucas owed them the movie they wanted, and that's not how Hollywood works...I'm sorry. George Lucas has done some royally stupid things to his saga over the years and his new BluRay changes are(mostly) gratuitous alterations to sell more movies and rake in the cash, but the man made Episode I the way he felt it needed to be made. Piss and moan all you want that Anakin isn't the kid you wanted him to be or that there's too much talk about trade boycotts and blockades, but the franchise belongs to Lucas and he can make the movie he wants. He should have done a few things differently in my eyes, but that's just my personal opinion as a fan. I don't hate any of the STAR WARS films even if a couple were subpar. If these obese, Cheeto-stained fanboys typing up ad hominem attacks against Episode I in their mom's basements want a better Episode I then make it yourself. The film is what it is, warts and all. Claiming it ruined your perception of the STAR WARS saga or made you want to kill Lucas with a shovel is your right and I'll defend it, but it sounds so childish and stupid. It's one thing to give legitimate criticism and want a movie to be better. It's another ball game entirely to claim it raped your stupid childhood.

It's just a movie, nerdboys . Get over it.
And THIS is how you do a reverse Plinkett on the haters! Kudos! :D

BTW, CGI Yoda in Clones looked okay back then, but I do remember being very disappointed by it, because that same year WETA digital pushed the limits WAAAAY farther with Gollum, and I hoped ILM would rise up to the challenge. They didn't even come close, not until Davy Jones, that is.

Yoda in Sith was kinda weird, it's like the quality of CGI varied from shot to shot. In certain scenes he looked just like in AOTC, while in some, he looked almost superb.

This is what I mean:

I'll probably see it in the second or third week, when it's discounted. Haven't seen it since it came out in 1999. But what makes me laugh is that some idiot on facebook thinks it's better than all of the first 10 Star Trek movies.

The funny thing is that his clothes look real while his face doesn't.

Yeah, what an idiot!

Inappropriate name-calling aside, I honestly enjoyed TPM more than ST:TMP, ST III, ST V (d'uh!), Generations, Insurrection and Nemesis.

I wouldn't go as far as to call it a "better" movie, though. ST V excluded, even Breaking Dawn pt1 beats that crap. :alienblush:

Yeah, but if you saw the way my childhood was dressed, it was totally asking for it.

:shifty:

I hadn't noticed anything like that mentioned in this thread.

It's an exaggeration, but if you've seen comments on other threads, message boards and YouTube about the prequels then you know very well what I'm talking about. Some fans think Lucas urinated on their heads when he made the prequels and won't stop bitching about how THEY'D have made them better. Which is their right and I won't say it isn't, but the sheer anger and unfettered rage some fanboys express over a simple movie is just creepy sometimes.

How about we engage in learned, reasoned TrekBBS discussion and leave the YouTube hordes out of it? ;)

There's reasoned discussion around here? What message board have I been visiting?! Where the hell AM I right now?! :wtf:

JK. :D

YouTube comments can make our worst trolls seem like gifted Rhodes Scholars. I remember visiting a STAR WARS prequel movie trailer and seeing numerous comments about how STAR WARS fans are gay, have AIDS, are all losers and even have sex with dogs and cats. The replies were just as awful. YouTube trolls are some of the worst on the entire Internet.

I'd say that they're even worse than the trolls that populate the AICN talkbacks which is very scary since we have to share the planet with them.

I only know someone who MAY have had sex with a dog. It's all hints and insinuation. And it was a female dog too. Take that, YouTube!

People still visit AICN?

I steered clear of that place early on. Too many sociopaths, losers and idiots over there. I started hearing stories about AICN a lonnnnng time ago...most of them bad.

The site itself is kinda tolerable. Not great...but you can visit and read it. The people who congregate there are real doozies, though. A lot of them have the social skills of a spider monkey.

Most of the posters there barely qualify as human. I'm amazed how the mentally disturbed can congregate in one place like AICN or youtube to spew their inanities and vileness. They must have some kind of sick sense where they just know how to get together.
