The Pacific Trailer

I hope when they get to the Battle of Okinawa they don't pussy-foot over how the Japanese military forced civilians to commit suicide and in many cases killed them rather then let them surrender to the US troops.

I'm definitely interested in seeing this. I don't have any family that was in the European theater, but my grandfather was in the Pacific.

Yeah, I wonder. They did a "holocaust" episode in BoB, so I'll be pissed if they don't do a similar episode in The Pacific.

This looks interesting, but I'd hoped, when I first heard the title, that the Pacific miniseries might feature the Navy.

Completely forgot this existed until a trailer for the show came up during the repeat of Band of Brothers I watched tonight. Still looking forward to seeing this.

Extremely excited for this. BoB is the best miniseries ever IMO and I'm expecting the same from this. Should be interesting for a totally new theatre and I wonder if they are going to address the intensity of the Japanese enemies and try to compare them to the Germans we saw last time...

Could be interesting, although I'm guessing they will avoid the issue and focus mostly on our American boys.

Yes! Just in time for my birthday. Maybe I can convince my grandfather to watch this with me. He served in the Pacific during WWII.

I've been waiting nine years for this and now with my loss of HBO I'll have to wait for the DVD's.

The trailers are absolutely excellent and I heard that the whole thing is based off two of the best pacific WWII memoirs available, With the Old Breed and Helmet for my Pillow.

I'm reading With the Old Breed now. If the show captures just a small fraction of what the book describes, it will make B.O.B. look like a boy scout camping trip.

Indeed, the book conveys an almost primal hatred between the marines and the Japanese troops. I wonder if that will be toned down in these PC times? To tell the truth, there are some things in the book that I am not sure I want to see. Even so, I may pick up HBO again for the duration of the series.

Honestly, if they do a WW2 campaign set in the Pacific without showing racism? I'll probably be very disappointed in the show.

What I like about the Pacific campaign is because it shows the darker side of WW2. It's easy to forget about how Canada and the US treated its Japanese citizens like crap when you put it into the context of HITLER IS EVIL. Not so much here.

March 14.

The wait is over.

Although it is one episode per week for 10 weeks, like with Band of Brothers.
