I wouldn't hold your breath. I've noticed some premium cable channels will show the first one or two episodes of their shows online in order to hook you and get you to subscribe.

I wouldn't hold your breath. I've noticed some premium cable channels will show the first one or two episodes of their shows online in order to hook you and get you to subscribe.
I liked it. It's a different flavor of sorts, seeing as some different people are involved and all. Personally I liked the theme and thought it was nicely done, if a bit on the long side.
And I think it had to be different from Band of Brothers with it's structure, otherwise people would just have said "Oh they're just copying Band of Brothers". Sure you don't get the same rousing feeling of honor, glory and heroism as you do at the end of "Currahee" when they get into the planes and they take off, but then again this was a less glorious theater of war. Like one of the men say at the beginning: "Man that was some ugly war. 67 years later and it still scares when I think about it".
I'm looking forward to the next episode.

I have also picked up HBO for the duration of the series. The first ep was pretty good. I kind of like skipping over boot camp and getting quickly to Guadalcanal. It was kind of a reminder of how fast the boys were rushed into combat and of how new the war was for the US: nine months compared to two and a half years when Band of Brothers gets into the fighting.
I thought the thing with the tough-talking captain losing his head in the battle was kind of a cliche and not really necessary, and it wasn't from the Leckie memoir so I don't know why it was added.
The look and accuracy of the show seemed pretty good, though I did spot the officer that briefed the marines in front of the map wearing a ribbon for a PUC, which hadn't been awarded yet.
All in all, I liked it a lot and am looking forward to the rest.

Besides HBO.Com, you can also see the first episode on DirecTV's channel 101 at scheduled times. Once again, no idea if the remaining episodes will be shown.
that officer, played by the great William Sadler, was LtC Chesty Puller.
I'll be interested to see how Puller is portrayed. He is near legend in the USMC but many Marines at Peleliu had less than admiration for him according the the book "With the Old Breed" that the show is based partially upon.
I don't know about later but judging from his "Patton speech" to the NCOs before Christmas leave and when the veterans saw his regiment come to reinforce them on Guadalcanal he already had a hero worship cult from his prewar service.
Oh, yeah that should definitely be interesting. I think their portayals of historical people are some of the most interesting parts of the show, I want to see what kind of picture they would paint.
