The Dominion allegedly sent out 100 baby Changelings into the galaxy. Odo was one; his buddy Laas was another. What about the other 98?

Cliche as it may be, I imagine at least one of them lives on a pre-warp planet where it's worshiped as a God, or lives as a vigilante superhero, or just a solitary cryptid. Or maybe all three, over the span of a few centuries.

In the Delta Quadrant, I expect the Hirogen would try to make a trophy hunt of a Changeling, which would backfire. The Vidiians might try using one to cure the Phage, which would definitely backfire. The Borg would try to assimilate it; what would a Changeling full of nanoprobes look like?

These Changelings were sent out to all corners of the galaxy, and are pretty much immortal. So any series set during or after DS9 could've featured one of them. We don't know how long ago exactly they were sent, so even a prequel series could have them, provided the characters don't learn its full origins. Which would be easy, since the Changeling itself wouldn't even know.

There's also great potential for a confusing shape-shifting anomaly to turn out to be a Changeling, that doesn't know how to communicate with solids.

I find it an extremely irritating missed opportunity that "Voyager" never came across one of the Hundred Changelings in the Delta Quadrant. I was likewise disappointed that Murf on "Prodigy" wasn't a Changeling.

"Star Trek: Insurrection" should frankly have centered on the Enterprise's role in the Dominion War. A Changeling could've made for a pretty decent antagonist, ally or tragic love interest. Troi would surely be able to sense an unusual intelligent presence in a seemingly empty room, and possibly identify which piece of furniture is the Changeling. Data might relate to an orphan Changeling as growing up seemingly the only one of your species. Sela might try to harness a baby Changeling for some covert plot.

What do you think the other 98 baby Changelings might have ended up doing? And had they been featured in other series or movies, where do you think they could've popped up?

I guess realistically it's a surprise that any are found. Think, 100 tiny containers in the vastness of space. A load may end up in suns and blackholes.

Maybe an interesting story is what bad parents they were. "The solids are evil - we're going to shoot 100 of you out, and you can deal with suns and solids."

A baby Changeling shot into a star or some spacial anomaly could have some interesting results!

STO had Laas gather them and set them up as a new AQ Dominion by lying to them that Starfleet and the Alliance had exterminated the other Changelings. The player gets through to them with the help of a Vorta.

Not even that far from the truth. They very nearly were, after all - perhaps not by Starfleet, but still by a Federation organization (Section 31). By whose actions Laas probably also should have been infected with the virus.

All of them and more. And the title should read 97, as one of them died and gave Odo his abilities back.

Yes. One loose end that DS9 did not tie up was Odo tracking down Laas and curing him. (And Laas pointing out that he was right about solids not being trustworthy.) And tracking down any other changelings who Laas might have infected. Ah, well, perhaps some volunteers from the Great Link worked on it after the end of the show.

Considering how vast space is, it's amazing we saw Laas and the baby from "THE BEGOTTEN" at all. And I'm not entirely convinced it was one of the 100, either... considering it found its way to DS9 and Odo. Bashireling was still here, and he should have been able to fix the infant fully. I think that line from the Female Changeling in "BEHIND THE LINES" saying 'we have forgiven you' is more than just that. I think that baby was put there on purpose so it would eventually merge into Odo and giving him his abilities back.

So I'm not surprised we didn't see more on DS9 or VOY. But there is one thing that makes me wonder if Voyager did encounter one.

In "TWISTED", we see the ship being twisted and contorted by an anomaly. What if that anomaly was originally something else and one of 100 somehow merged with it, creating a brand new, intelligent anomaly? It did leave a lot information into the computer after it downloaded a copy of their database, but we never find out what it was about.

Back in the day, I had this as the idea for an entire spinoff series — a Starfleet ship with a Founder observer trying to find and cute/vaccinate the rest of the Hundred before it was too late, the search taking us to hundreds of worlds to get in trouble on along the way. (Star Trek: Search for the Hundred!)

One of them took a convenient wormhole back in time and determined that the best way to ensure a Dominion victory was to completely ruin the Federation's world of origin before it could be created. He managed to subjugate one political party yo his will, and the other was unable to produce a candidate capable of beating him. His nefarious agenda is underway at this very moment...
