The Dominion allegedly sent out 100 baby Changelings into the galaxy. Odo was one; his buddy Laas was another. What about the other 98?
Cliche as it may be, I imagine at least one of them lives on a pre-warp planet where it's worshiped as a God, or lives as a vigilante superhero, or just a solitary cryptid. Or maybe all three, over the span of a few centuries.
In the Delta Quadrant, I expect the Hirogen would try to make a trophy hunt of a Changeling, which would backfire. The Vidiians might try using one to cure the Phage, which would definitely backfire. The Borg would try to assimilate it; what would a Changeling full of nanoprobes look like?
These Changelings were sent out to all corners of the galaxy, and are pretty much immortal. So any series set during or after DS9 could've featured one of them. We don't know how long ago exactly they were sent, so even a prequel series could have them, provided the characters don't learn its full origins. Which would be easy, since the Changeling itself wouldn't even know.
There's also great potential for a confusing shape-shifting anomaly to turn out to be a Changeling, that doesn't know how to communicate with solids.
I find it an extremely irritating missed opportunity that "Voyager" never came across one of the Hundred Changelings in the Delta Quadrant. I was likewise disappointed that Murf on "Prodigy" wasn't a Changeling.
"Star Trek: Insurrection" should frankly have centered on the Enterprise's role in the Dominion War. A Changeling could've made for a pretty decent antagonist, ally or tragic love interest. Troi would surely be able to sense an unusual intelligent presence in a seemingly empty room, and possibly identify which piece of furniture is the Changeling. Data might relate to an orphan Changeling as growing up seemingly the only one of your species. Sela might try to harness a baby Changeling for some covert plot.
What do you think the other 98 baby Changelings might have ended up doing? And had they been featured in other series or movies, where do you think they could've popped up?
