The Oscars - do you care?

I do care about the Oscars. Over the last 10 to 15 years, seen more than half of the Best Picture winners either before, or just after.

I glance over the lost of winners in the paper the next morning, but thats about the extent of my intrest. It just strikes me as odd that of the hundreds of movies released every year, there are only 3-4 that clean up all the awards each year.

And while I can be snobby about films sometimes, I'd say nine out of ten times I have zero interest in seeing handful of film critic wank-fests that make up the major nominees. My favorites tend to be lumped into the technical categiroes if they're mentioned at all.

Some people must have been watching the Oscars because we were completely dead at the restaurant last night.

I was quite disappointed to see the E channel had chosen Ryan Seacrest to present the live show - what a dickhead. Fearne Cotton seemed to be doing a much better job on Sky 1 - but the show began just as I was going to bed - not worth missing sleep for!

It seems more an event to see who's wearing what dress than about film

You say it like it's a bad thing.

This is why I only look at the photos the day after, and skip watching the actual thing. :D

OK, the better dressed guys (I'll let one of the girls analyse the ladies fashions):

Forest Whittaker is comfortably the best. Awesome DB, perfect tie & pocket square and showing the right amount of cuff. Diddy and Jackman are both very correctly and nicely dressed too, but Whittaker just does it with more panache and better fit. Superb!
