While it might be possible for the show to go on without Seth MacFarlane as showrunner, it couldn't without him in the cast. The show at its core is all about Ed and Kelly. Either of them leave, the show might as well end.I wouldn't be against a season four without him. Promote David A. Goodman to showrunner and bring in a new character to introduce new dynamics.

feel the opposite. I would rather him stay as show runner even if it means leaving the character behind. I mean the show is kind of his brainchild and his vision and it's pretty uniquely tied to him because it's basically a chance for him to do Star Trek since he was such a big fan. The other writers are talented of course but I am not sure they have the same love so the show isn't really going to be as personal to them as it would be with MacFarlane.
