The Orville season 3 - first look

I got to be honest, I'm completely okay with this delay and even kind of relieved. The spring, March specifically looks to have a really cluttered TV schedule for me, as nearly every show I watch will have new episodes, including two Star Trek series. At the moment June doesn't look as cluttered for me, especially since the network shows I watch will definitely have their seasons done by then.

Not to mention, this gives me more time to rewatch the first two seasons, which I'd like to do before diving into the third but can't fit the time to do so here lately.

We got to see some of them in action in that sneak peek clip and it had me wondering if it was going to be their new shuttle design. I'm glad it is as it looks a lot better to me, even if the angled window is a bit strange.

They were common on spaceships back when they used physical models as they were less likely to reflect the blue/green screen, but I feel like ships in modern series tend to have curvier cockpits.

If DSC or any other current ST series would have released this, haters would have cried ‘Meh, just a lot of pew pew Star Wars-wannabe shit with mediocre effects and zero substance… so this is Trek these days??’ But of course being The Orville, it’s the ‘greatest thing ever made’…..

honestly, this sequence is much better in choreography AND FX than anything Discovery ever did. You can ever understand what’s going on, just saying…

Well that’s just your opinion.. I most definitely disagree on the FX being better…if Strange New Worlds had released this as their opening, none of the haters would mention ‘choreography’ or ‘fx’ or the fact you ‘can tell what is happening’… no, they’d bitch about all the pew pew, the lack of substance, the absent Trek philosophy….. but when it comes to Orville, the haters use a hypocritical measuring system of double standards, which is demonstrated within this thread….

and this is, guess what, your opinion. :p

Fact is that this is a pretty good sequence and you brought out a discovery (and now strange new worlds) totally hypothetical comparison when neither show never did anything remotely similar because…because?

Such Sweet Sorrow part 2 is very similar, but you know that already… and that many haters follow a certain kind of pattern is not really an opinion…

Why should I care about the "Trek Philosophy" being present or absent in The Orville?

not that similar…and the sequence it was such a mess that when I found those badly-lit, always spinning, videogameish clips on YouTube a couple of years later I thought they were from a fan film using good models but severely lacking in everything else.

just compare the two shots, if you really insist.

‘Not that similar’… That’s already something different from ‘nothing REMOTELY similar’……. Let’s just agree to disagree

This was set up by the previous season of The Orville. We already know to expect space battles and we already know that they can do their stand alone Star Trek episodes in between. Plus it wasn't really about a fight, it was about the traumatised kid whose father figure turned evil.
