The Orville first review

I disagree -- 100%!!!

Well, I agree -- 200%!!!

The Orville felt way more like Star Trek than Discovery did. Too grim, too dark and too many pissing Klingons.

I also kinda agree with Jonathan Frakes too. He likes both shows; He directed one of each.

There was only one pissing klingon. It just seemed like more because they have two penises. I agree though that "The Orville" was a better show. It's a very different show so some might say it's wrong to compare but how I see it is "Orville" achieved what it wanted to do better than "Discovery" did. "Orville" seemed to have one vision and that was to do a modern TNG show with more humor. "Discovery" wanted to be more edgy and new yet was split between maybe 3 visions, Fuller,CBS and the head showrunners who replaced Fuller. You lost your best character to maybe the worst plot twist and character assiginations in tv history, and your bad guys were a failure since nobody really liked the new Klingons. Plus the canon debates were/are a annoying distraction that doesn't really matter but it still sort of bugs people anyways because it makes it uncertain if it really is a Prime Universe show or not. Maybe Pike and his crew wearing the old uniforms will change that issue. At that point just fixing the Klingons and maybe turn on the lights and you most likely got enough wiggle room to help make it feel like a Prime Universe show for those who don't feel like it currently does.

So will it come out on blu-ray and not just dvd? Does it have any special features on it?
Nothing's been revealed about it at all. Though there is a very good possibility it could only be DVD release with no Blu-ray. Twentieth Century Fox thing.

Finally got this and have to say I am enjoying this more then I thought I would.

It's a lot of fun. DVDs finally arrived.

Season 1 was good. I am excited to see what season 2 will be like. Love the fighting, bickering on the bridge. Haha marital problems.

BTW the shuttle...... It's the same one from Dark Matter I'm almost sure of it. Minor redressing and colour change but the interior is just like the Dark Matter shuttle, seats seem the same too, but I guess it was in storage so was easier and cheaper to use that.

I think it will.

As for the Orville, hoping for more Krill. Would not mind them being explored more.

ETA: Oh, and I like the Discovery Klingons. One of the more interesting interpretations I have seen in Trek.

I think seeing the Klingons wearing hair and seeing the TOS style uniforms have already made me re-consider it as a Prime show. Though it still fits more along the lines of the Kelvin Universe were it sort of feels like canon because of Nimoy Spock and the altered timeline yet also like a reboot as well. It kind of straddles both fenches and I think that is were I am with "Discovery" right now. Feels canonish but maybe not as much as the other shows. Granted nothing will have the connective tissue that TNG,DS9,Voyager and even Enterprise has due to it being created my many of the same people and Berman being in charge of all four shows.

I wish that the remastered episodes of both shows replaced the copyright notices in the end credits with '©2010 CBS Studios, Inc' but that's just me.

Yeah, singing along with the theme tune and not doing the Paramount trumpet at the end feels wrong. I do it for Frasier too, but that one has actual words.

Meh, to me the Krill seem a bit limited and one dimensional. Aliens on a holy crusade to wipe out all life but their own, been there done that. At this point they'd be better finding a way to eradicate the problem. Leave them no quarter, put UV cannons on ships and blast them or replicate that time accelerator. If one bloody tree can destroy a ship imagine a whole cloud of seeds aimed at a fleets intakes.

Meh, a big percentage of them are about them.
And? Does that mean I must like them?

Because, I do not and stopped reading the novels once they were introduced, at least post ROTJ. Read the Prequel era ones.

On topic, the Krill are far more interesting that the Vong were so I do not see the comparison as being fair.

It is a timely subject considering groups like ISIS and hardcore fundamentalist Christians here in the US.

On that I do agree, that's very timely and topical but there's only so far you can go with that before it turns people away or alienates them for attacking their beliefs.

They also worship a car rental company. Don’t forget that.

Yes noticed that.

Christians have been villains in some way for a while, so those who are going to be alienated are probably already there with a religious fundamentalist style villain. If people can survive the Ori in Stargate, the Krill will be fine.
