The Only Good Dalek (SPOILERS)

EJA

Fleet Captain
Had a look at this new graphic novel in Waterstones the other day. Why do the Daleks in the story look like the ones introduced in Victory of the Daleks? The story seems to be set around the same era as the classic The Daleks' Masterplan, so shouldn't the Daleks here resemble the ones from that time?

Come to think of it, I'm still a little bit miffed that Prisoner of the Daleks had Time War era Daleks, whilst taking place in a pre-War timezone.

I'm annoyed at ANY use of the new-new style Daleks. They look terrible.

But I agree that the least they could do is keep any stories that take place before Victory of the Daleks in line by having the old style.

My understanding was Prisoner of the Daleks was only just prior to the Time War, so the advances to resemble the 2005 model could have only just happen in readiness for the war.

As far as Paradigm Daleks go, it's likely people have been asked to include them wherever possible to promote them in the new series.

As much as I don't think they should.

I would presume that the Time Lock erased the original Daleks from history, and that the New Paradigm Daleks who escaped at the end of "Victory of the Daleks" returned to their original timeframe, there to establish a new empire.

In other words -- there were the old Daleks, they got erased, and now New Daleks have been drawn into the points in time where the old Daleks used to be.

I don't think the Daleks got erased from the timeline. Captain Jack and others remember them (in dialogue from Parting of the Ways).

It is possible however that the paradigm Daleks somehow altered their own history. For instance, in the adventure games they've restored Skaro somehow.

I actually kind of liked how John Peel explained that away in War of the Daleks...

*runs away* :alienblush:

Yeah, but those are Humans in the 10002nd Century or some such. We already know that Humans are time-active by the 51st Century, so that just means that the Humans of that era were technologically and temporally developed enough to sense time being re-written and preserve their records of the Daleks' existence prior to the Time Lock.

The Daleks of the New Paradigm are now the look of the Daleks, and as such, BBC wants that look to be used for all new product featuring the Daleks.

Similar, at the time of Prisoner of the Daleks, the RTDalek was the look for the Daleks at the time, and so BBC wanted all product from the RTD era featuring Daleks to use RTDaleks.
