The one episode I would delete from the canon...

^ I wonder what would happen if SF stole the technology, and made the Jem'Hadar live through learning peace, freedom from the Vorta, that the Founders were maybe leaders, but not gods... I wonder if that could deprogram them a little...

I'd forgotten about TMOTTH... yeah, I could've done without that one...

I love Hard Time too much to delete it from canon, but I agree that it's a major problem that it didn't have lasting ramifications. I see it as an example of a fault in the nature of episodic storytelling more than as a fault in the episode itself. Of course, DS9 was much more linear than other Trek series, but it had it's episodic moments and this one often comes to mind. On the other hand, I can accept The Inner Light a little easier. I can tell myself that, since the objective of the probe was a positive one, maybe the effect on Picard's mind was different and the details of the experience faded soon afterwards, like a dream. That doesn't work so well with Hard Time because it's made abundantly clear that the experience had lasting effects.

As for an episode that I would delete, I can't think of anything off the top of my head from DS9 that I feel has to be eliminated. As for Voyager, Threshold of course and Endgame. Aside from my general opposition to all the technological upgrades Voyager got, there's also the matter of having a Borg transwarp conduit right next to Earth. That puts Borg competence into serious question when you wonder why they haven't just flooded local space with cubes.

If I were to get more heavy-handed, Enterprise would be up for a serious culling. Unfortunately, if I go down that lane I'll end up just discussing how I would have done everything differently rather than simply eliminate some things from canon, so I'll just leave it be.

I am in absoulte shock that "Hard Time", one of DS9s best hours is in serious contention for elimination from canon when "Let He Who Is Without Sin" hasnt even been MENTIONED.

"Profit and Lace" hands down.

As far as "Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night," I get the impression that it was a product of the writers getting stuck on an idea and refusing to abandon it. In the DVD interviews with Nana Visitor, she talks about how the writers kept pushing for romantic tension between Dukat and Kira, and how she was always completely against it being any more than tension. She refused to take Kira that far, and insisted she would never forgive Dukat for his crimes during the occupation. So, the writers came to her one day and told her, "Okay, Kira doesn't have an affair with Dukat. But your mother does!" At which point Visitor just shrugged, laughed, and gave in.

One of those times when the writers really should have listened to the actor. Even still, even though I don't love the episode, I like the glimpse it gives us into another side of the occupation - both the willing collaborators and the not-so-willing.

I wonder if the people from Move Along Home, were part of the Dominion... or if they weren't because one day, a Founder, a Vorta and a Jem'Hadar first (or 2 Jem'Hadar and no founder, whichever seems more realistic... ;) ) beamed down to their planet to tell them they were now part of the Dominion... when suddenly they were whisked to the game... The Jem'hadar wouldn't sing, the Founder couldn't drink and the Vorta was too scared... so they're still in there!!!!! hahaha!

^ It didn't amuse you at all? It may not have made a huge impact on the scheme of things... As much as people are think Ferengi are malevolent little beings, Quark is right that they're not as bad as what humans were- and in some cases continue to be- even the sexism they demonstrate is on par for some places here still.

But ST has always been ahead of the game. Take Past Tense- I'm not a big time travel fan, but as someone pointed out- doesn't it remind some of you a bit of the US's reaction post 9/11? The response to a devastating attack (Our world) led to a bit of paranoia (both) which led to crack downs on freedoms, Guantanamo Bay etc. those "no fly" lists where there are errors and some of the "terrorists" are toddlers? Remember that everyone just found without there IDs in PT, even if they were mugged- went to those "secure" walled areas...

Gotta have fun sometime...
I mean, the Dominion War is my fav. part of ST- but from a human stand point- think of all the conflicts over those few years- Wars with Cardassia, the Klingons, the Dominion- if they couldn't unwind once in a while- holosuites etc, I'm sure most people would've thrown in the towel... maybe.

^ I think it ranks in the best in general... and some good advice! lol

One think I think about Hard Time- its interesting that the technology exists- and could potentially be exploited in the future- but it would be hard to show that as a B-plot. I didn't care for the ending though, and if I recall, I didn't like Bashir's advice, tho it is kindof typical Julian advice.
