"The Omega Glory": Were the Yangs Illiterate?

Could the Yangs even read the US Constitution and the Bible they carried around with them? At the end of the episode, the Yangs are standing around the Constitution and looking at it. I suppose if they could read it, they would have done a better job of reciting the "holy" words from the Preamble to the Constitution.

They were most likely at least partially illiterate by that point. Some could pick out a few words, but not read the whole thing any more than they could read that Bible...

Cloud William was probably illiterate, but Yang leaders learned to recite certain of the "worship words", perhaps taught by Cloud Festus, who seemed to act as Keeper of the Holy Scriptures.

Just had to give kudos on this, I busted out laughing!
I cannot claim credit, I'm afraid.

Morgan Farley's character is credited in the episode as "Yang Scholar," but in the TOS-forum Caption Contests of long, long ago, he became "Cloud Festus"*. I will forever remember him by that name.

* Probably attributable to Shatmandu, but it's been a very long time.

I don't know if they were illterate of not, but they sure were lacking in survival instincts when it came to their continued running into a guy with a magic fire box who was cutting them down in sways with ease. Lol
