The 'oldies' of TrekBBS reunite...

I'm not among the true oldies (at least I joined during this century), but I can still look down my nose at the young-ins. Looking down my nose isn't easy. My glasses get in the way. Then my eyes cross and I get a headache. And I stub my toe on the way to the bathroom to get some Aspirin.

Anyway, this is an interesting thread, and I'm lucky I spotted it. I posted here quite a bit around the 2001-2002 time span. I had a slack job and could afford to spend time on the board. Then I got a job that actually expected work and didn't post daily anymore. However, I've still been a lurker and (very) occasional poster. I never left, I just had my lips sewn shut. Figuratively, of course. If my lips were really sewn shut, I couldn't take Aspirin, which would have made the first part of my post just ridiculous.

How old does one have to be (Board years of course) to be considered an Oldie. I ask because in March I have 7 years here, which is the longest I've spent on a message board. I do remember a lot of the old folks who posted in this thread though. Not sure if they remember me since back then I was still considerably new. Probably still am, in a sense.

Wow...hadn't seen this thread in a few months. I thought it was dead.

Very odd seeing some of the names here after so long. Comforting, considering all the newbies we have around here....but it's odd too.

Alot of memories....

I bet most of the people posting in this thread have no idea who I even am, since I was posting under another username when you were here....and only a handful of people around here still call me that.

^ I don't know about that.....

Personally, I think anyone who posted on Big Blue could be considered an oldie...but that might not be other people's definition.

Big Blue came down in December 2002, IIRC....and I think that's a good cut-off point.

Myself? I've been here since mid-2001. But who knows...maybe to my former co-mod Jammer (who has less than 1,000 posts total, to my 30K+), I might be a 'newbie'....since he was here since Day 1.

PK,

Long time no chat. Really haven't been around the DS9 forum lately (As in maybe all year :( ) but I definitely remember you, and that whole Vash thing. Hope everything has been going well, and Christmas or whatever holiday was nice.

I tend to agree.

I don't care how long you've been here. If you weren't hit by the Christmas Massacre, you're always gonna be a newbie. :p

I hadn't even intended to post in this thread, as I figured I was way too much of a noob to participate in this geriatric, self-congratulatory shindig of old geezers patting eachother on the back. Yeah...um...well...where's my Geritol?*

Actually, I believe I originally reg'd back in '99 or very early '00. I'm a digital fossil just like the rest of y'old fogies. Of course, my posting habits haven't changed much (obviously). Funny thing is, I have posted regularly since joining (and since post-massacre resurrection), but rarely more than a post or two a day. I don't even know what category that puts me in.

"I believe that when we leave a place, part of it goes with us and part of us remains. Go anywhere in the station, when it is quiet, and just listen. After a while, you will hear the echoes of all our conversations, every thought and word we've exchanged. Long after we are gone .. our voices will linger in these walls for as long as this place remains. But I will admit .. that the part of me that is going .. will very much miss the part of you that is staying."

- G'Kar to Sheridan (Babylon 5 - "Objects in Motion")
I believe that quote (besides than the "station" part) is very relevant to this thread.

* - I'm at the bottom and no, I have no idea what that thread was about.

I registered on September 3, 2001. I remember Big Blue (I'm actually using the Big Blue skin right now) the Christmas Massacre, Kor () and of course the Troll Kingdom insurrection.

I was one of the original members of Adm_Hawthorne's Holy Order of the Coffee Goddess (anyone else remember that?), but I've mostly been a lurker for the past several years.

That's right. I re-registed on 2712/02. That's 7 years ago today. I first registered at the beginning of 02 but my account got wiped in the board hack. I guess I'm a semi-oldie since I can remember Big Blue. Made my eyes hurt!

I remember that. Didn't Adm_Hawthorne refer to herself as "she of the red shoulders"?

Been registered 5 years this January, but lurked for over a year before that! I found this forum when I googled the ENT episode E2

Love your AV Wills :techman:

Started lurking early 2002, still feel like a newbie though. Had a lot of fun on big blue. Not at all bad these days either.
