^ No, that was an interview done in some sort of backroom at SDCC, but not their stage panel (in fact the interviewer even mentions not having attended the panel at one point).

I stand corrected, I haven't actually had the time to watch the posted one yet and incorrectly assumed it was the same.

^ It's definitely well worth watching! Thanks to Mike Okuda, his wife and the fine folks from CBS for their participation.

Has anyone heard anything as to a possible digital release or putting TNG-R on TV (This fall, which usually starts in August for the new Syndicated season). All I've heard is the Theater event and the blu-ray release but it would be nice if they went all the way like they did with Star Trek-R and show the HD versions on TV.

Nope. CBS might be waiting for a few more seasons to be done before getting it on syndication or something.

I just can't wait for this...not any longer...

Indeed after several quite uneventful years, this is first time when again something exciting started to happen in Star Trek seas.

The excitement around remastering is almost as if new series would come out, and judging from screencap comparisons, rightfully so!

Season 1 is almost here, and I'm already anxious to get more...

Can you imagine Yesterdays Enterprise or BOBW in this quality...this is gonna be better than movies....

I know, it's kinda strange to be this excited to see the first season of TNG again.

If it wasn't for the blu-ray, it probably would been another 10 years before I bothered to watch any of it again.

I'd definitely want them to remove the "clipshow" element of the final episode.
Even the "new" bits of that battle, such as the Excelsior getting hit from an energy beam from above, was a re-use of a background element from Tears of the Prophets.
There were a couple of other times where that happened too, you could tell they wanted the final battle to be the most epic of all but it felt like they were trying to achieve this on about a third of the money of Sacrifice of Angels or Tears of the Prophets :(

I never knew about the Excelsior. What I basically remember is all the original battle footage before the clipshow was great (Defiant flip) you then get a greatest hits clipshow, then the new footage after the clips seemed a bit lucklustre in comparison. The static Galaxy firing a single phaser. Oh they're saving it up for the end... then they don't.

But then 75% of the TNG battles seem empty in comparison too, once you are used to CGI epics!

One of the differences though in TNG they used models so the actual film of that still exists. For DSN & VOY it is likely they would have to create new CGI so do you copy the original in all instances?

Which I think most poeple think they should, the question is about scenes in which they simple re-used some CGI of a battle from a previous episode.

As I said though that would be tricky. What do you do 'trace' the original? Trying to match up everything would be a nightmare.

Recycled footage is an interesting one though. Would seem a shame not to replace it. but...

What's the difference between recylced footage, and reusued music?

Some of my favourite scenes from Star Wars, and later day Doctor Who, use music originally created for earlier installments. Yet I associate them more with the reusage. No one would consider replacing them. Artistic decisions rather than budgetary issues?

I went to see a movie last night and look what they were advertising!

The Digital Bits hosted their yearly Blu-Ray Producers Panel at the Comic-Con and while nothing new was revealed about Trek, DVD producer Robert Meyer Burnett has a pretty neat idea for a future season:

http://thedigitalbits.com/#mytwocents

Robert Meyer Burnett showed us a clip from an interview he conducted for the Star Trek: The Next Generation - Seasons 2 & 3 Blu-rays with the show's cast. It's quite funny - one of the best interviews I think you'll see has ever been done with the cast. There is much candid humor. Burnett also talked about the HD restoration and upgrade for the series, and said that a possible special feature being discussed for a future season on BD would put top TNG writers (like Ronald D. Moore, Brannon Braga and others) into a new writer's room situation to have them break the story for a completely new, never seen "Episode 179" of the series, and capturing their discussion on video for fans to see. Season One streets on Blu-ray on 7/24.
