Crazy. While watching "Encounter at Farpoint" I keep thinking: "Wow, this looks like "All good things". :-)

By the way, the sequence in the holodeck scene when Riker and Data walk behind the tree and two shots were cut together is seemless now. You don't get any of the jarring, jumpy image like in the original version of the episode.
Tasha's defreezing is also much smoother now and scenes were split screen is used (most noticable when Q transforms on the bridge or when somebody beams up to the ship) are much more stable now. You don't see that two film elements were combined. Awesome!
Also, scenes incorporating effects added in post production (the two secuity members in the tubolift in EaF and Worf und Picard beaming down into the Klingon Great Hall in SofF) are no longer fuzzy but crystal clear.

I'm noticing a few edit changes...since I just watched the SD version 2 nights ago in prep. The editors prob had a choice of scenes to include from the original shots and found some better to their taste.

New interview from ST.com of Ken Ross, executive vice president and general manager of CBS Home Entertainment :

http://www.startrek.com/article/todays-the-day-tng-on-blu-ray

Lots of stats given, like:

How massive a project was/is it?

Ross: It was and continues to be an enormous project that will take several years to complete. From a manpower perspective, we have more than 20 people working on this project full time in three shifts 24 hours a day. It’s a huge commitment to transfer all seven seasons to high definition.

Also, some key questions answered:

What, if any additional extras will be on the full first-season TNG Blu-ray set?

Ross: There will be a nice complement of extras and some really cool stuff, so stay tuned!

When will it be out?

Ross: Late summer or early fall 2012.

What’s the game plan in terms of releasing seasons 2-7 of TNG?

Ross: We’re aiming to release two seasons per year.

Everyone is asking about DS9, Voyager and Enterprise. Enterprise was shot on HD, but how about DS9 and Voyager? What are the plans for those two shows?

Ross: Our focus right now is on TNG, but we will certainly consider all of the other Star Trek series.

Ah, 2 a year. So it was premature to get excited about the "over the next two years" thing that was mentioned (uncredited) before.

I say double the labor and get it out in half the time!

Yeah, two seasons per year seems more realistic. So (if all goes well) every season should be out by Christmas 2015.

And then hopefully DS9 will start in 2016! :shifty:

2 seasons a year. That's perfect. One episode per week for the next 4 years. No complaints.

Very pleased to hear about special features as well. It's a good time to be a fan.

Anyone else using this as a chance to indoctrinate their kids into Trekdom? My first grader will be joining me to watch EaF tonight...

I never realized it before, but the "hope we can be friends" scene between Picard and Crusher is placed in a really odd spot in the episode. :wtf:

What’s the game plan in terms of releasing seasons 2-7 of TNG?

Ross: We’re aiming to release two seasons per year.
Based on that I will guess CBS Home Entertainment has on the slate:
season 1 September 2012

Season 2 Jan.2013

Trek XII at the cinema Summer 2013

Season 3 Sept. 2013

Trek XII Blu-ray November 2013

Season 4 Feb.2014
Season 5 Sept. 2014
Season 6 Jan. 2015
Season 7 Sept. 2015

Trek XIII at the cinema 2015-2016

My guess is Enterprise will get a Blu-ray release for season 1 in 2015.

Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Special Editions Collection (Star Trek I, II, III, IV, V, VI [Blu-ray] in 2016. Remastered in 4K-6K.

I think you might see Enterprise Blu-ray releases tucked between TNG-R releases starting in 2013.
