For the sake of God... A plea to the producers:
Get rid of that horrible 4 foot model! This is the chance to fix a big continuity issue.
I know... the 4 foot model was created to allow more movement and more complex shots, but it lacks the more organic lines and character of the original model build by ILM. That one is unmatched.
I know that this is only a preview disc, and they work on the earlier season right now... Take that opportunity, use Tobias Richter's mesh and fix that issue!!!
The screenshots look magnificent. I cannot wait for the set to arrive.

When I see the nice resolution I really wished they would have tried for a 16:10 option (cutting away the TV overscan top and bottom and add a little left and right). The picture would be so much nicer if it would be a little wider than 4:3...

Wow, I've been looking over the new screencaps on TrekCore, and it almost brought a tear to my eye. The show looks absolutely GLORIOUS now.
I don't think I've ever been this excited to see the 1st season again. If even Farpoint can look stunning, I can only imagine how much better episodes like Where No Man, 11001001, or the Neutral Zone will look.
Yeah, now that they aren't drab and washed out, they actually look a lot cooler than I remember. And a lot more consistent with the later style as well.
I don't think I've ever been this excited to see the 1st season again. If even Farpoint can look stunning, I can only imagine how much better episodes like Where No Man, 11001001, or the Neutral Zone will look.

I'm frankly dissapointed that they won't try to give us better staging shots like they did in some episodes of TOS.
It seems everyone wants TNG to be "exactly the same" except in "HD". Do you really want "Yesterday's Enterprise" to be the exact same boring "Enterprise stands still and fires 1 phaser beam at Klingons at a time" when they had an opportunity to get that sucker to move! Show us evasive maneouvers that aren't just the ship moving sideways! DS9 had some spectacular ship to ship battles, and not just in "Sacrifice of Angels" either, but other episodes too.
All this TNG purism is sickening. Don't you wish "Encounter at Farpoint" had scenes like these?:

To be serious, though, yes, I like the calm and stately TNG staging shots, and I also don't mind capital ships lumbering along; it gives them a sense of scale.
And yes, to me it is intrinsically interesting to see the original shots in higher quality and detail. Finding out more about them to me is more interesting than seeing a new shot I don't know yet.
Odd episode to pick, the only thing that new effects would bring to it is novelty. It's one of the best episodes of TNG, regardless of a static battle scene. The acting conveys things far better, with our heroes getting killed left and right, and Picard jumping over the wooden horseshoe to go down fighting.
I can see the argument in favour, but it's not going to significantly improve the show, it'll just be something new to see after twenty years.
The jellyfish model/puppets ILM did in 1987 are far superior to the CGI posted above and superior to any CGI that could be attempted today and better yet they where the original effects from when the show was made! If it aint broke don't fix it.
OTOH there are certainly many shots that would be 'nice' if they would change it... its just the jellyfish shot isn't one of them.

Going by the replies so far? Yes.
I think sickening is a bit OTT, but personally in Yesterdays Enterprise I wouldn't mind if they sped up the rate of fire coming from everyone in that scene. You don't need to add a few barrel rolls, but making Picard's "That'll be the day" frantic bash at a control panel hammering the fire button repeatedly would make for a better scene if its translated to the FX shot.
I agree that it would be nice to see better variety, but for the most part, there isn't much need to do anything like what you're suggesting yet. I totally agree Yesterday's Enterprise needs an FX revamp, since that would do the story a massive favor and show that the Starfleet crew was actually competent, but for the most part, the stuff in the first two seasons was pretty good (aside from episodes where the FX definitely could be done better like Arsenal of Freedom).I'm frankly dissapointed that they won't try to give us better staging shots like they did in some episodes of TOS.

You have to be pretty full of yourself to put your taste so far above others' - wonder what sort of life experience you believe has given you that license.

Well if I remember correctly, Most of the TOS shot were done roughtly the same as the original FX. However, they took some liberty to spice up select episodes like "The Doomsday Machine" and the work was spectacular!
I'm not saying everything in TNG needs to be redone, but they should certainly work on the stuff that they wanted to do but couldn't because of budget reasons.
Episodes I can think of right away that needed better staged shots are "Yesterday's Enterprise", "Q Who", "Redemption" (this one in particular. We are told the blockade was a total of 30 Federation ships, and we got to see, 3 kitbashes on screen? Is is really acceptable from a "purist" point of view? Wouldn't you rather see the 30 ships on screen since it would be so easy to recreate them in CGI?)
Almost any episode with the Romulans needed work. We are told the Romulans are menacing, and we see the crew shit their pants everytime they face them, yet the on screen experience doesn't show it.

I guess Remastered TOS fails your definition then.
Redemption is a really bad example since it would make no sense to see all the ships in the shot because they're spread out over light years to secure the border.
As for the Warbirds, they do lack presence, but that's because they never actually do anything in TNG.
I think they made the right choice. In the screencap below, you can just make out some kind of grip equipment (like part of a C-stand or a flag or possibly a boom) in the upper right corner of the frame:

If they had opened the frame any wider, they would have run into this kind of stuff over and over again and it would've slowed down the remastering even further.
Nope. The original TOS film master -- including all of the original special FX, everything that was there to begin with -- was remastered in HD. The remaster was complete at that point. The new FX were added after the remaster. The added FX had nothing to do with the remaster. Indeed, the new FX were the only part of the show that wasn't remastered.
When I watch TOS on blu-ray with all the original FX, I'm still watching remastered TOS. "Remastered" has nothing to do with new FX or added content.
They weren't even kitbashes - just the regular Ambassador, Nebula etc.
