Confirmed by an insider at blu-ray.com that the Sins of the Father shot is entirely CGI, basically a test to show they can produce the same quality if needed.
Wow, not even 24 hours to catch that... Some true Trek fans here...I only noticed because I was playing the Blu-ray and the DVD at the same time, side-by-side...![]()

That whole shot is CGI (even the Enterprise), and is actually a great example of how well they can reproduce the look of the models using CGI if they absolutely have to (and I believe this is the only shot that is CGI'd on this set).
Maybe it is the original model but with CGI effects added to it. Not an expert on what can be done with CGI but I assume that can be done.
I have long been an advocate of sticking to the original footage, but I will turn hypocrite and say that if the 4 footer is gone forever I'll be a happy man.
If they mix and match and only replace some shots of it, I'll be less so.![]()

Definitely in the minority lol. I agree it is a tremendous task considering Jein's model was used for creating virtually every new model shot of the Enterprise from 'The Defector' onwards.Devastated that it looks like they are ditching the 4ft model, even though it has obvious aesthetic flaws I always prefered it to the ILM model.
I think you are in a minority with that view. There are many shots of the 4ft model that look great but some look like a toy even at SD resolution. We still don't know if it has been ditched completely yet as it would be a huge undertaking to erase it from the show!
I don't know if it's actually a geometry change on the model, a result of all the blur in the tape originally used to edit the episode, or a timing thing, because I've noticed the same sort of geometry line up issue with the comparison shots of the ship back when we first saw that bit from the opening credits.
Looks like the impulse engine is sticking out farther on the CGI model.

Also, I really like the new BoP it looks way more "predatorial" and menacing than that TSFS model which I never really cared for. I hope they continue to use it in other episodes.
Yeah, they just changed the BoP's angle relative to the Enterprise and the camera. Also, I really like the new BoP it looks way more "predatorial" and menacing than that TSFS model which I never really cared for. I hope they continue to use it in other episodes.
It's the exact same design.
You think it's Richter's? I don't recall seeing a Galaxy by him, actually ...
Edit: Nvm, saw it now.
Yes...but now it looks as if BOP is pointing too high up.Yeah, they just changed the BoP's angle relative to the Enterprise and the camera. Also, I really like the new BoP it looks way more "predatorial" and menacing than that TSFS model which I never really cared for.
