I wouldn't mind either, but then some start asking 'so, is the ______ REALLY an Excelsior Class or a Nebula Class' :)

Nebula, New Orleans, Centaur, Challenger, Cheyenne, Niagara, Steamrunner, Akira, et al. are all options (based on their registry numbers) that could and should be inserted into the TNG-Remastered, if nothing other than background unnamed ships, but preferably replacing the much over-used Excelsior, Miranda, and Oberth ships.

Background is one thing, but when the ship is featured, I know people (not me) care what class ship it is, and if that changes from one version to the other, some will be upset.

It's like in TOS-R when they changed one of the 'Klingon style' Romulan ships, to an actual Romulan ship. It wasn't contradicted by anything said in the original but it irked some people.

Unless I am misunderstanding something they will have to recreate this effect. I would be in favour of it being smoothed out a little as the transformations are a little jerky in my opinion.

yeah, they may be able to smooth out the transition, for sure. Same with the stop-motion in Conspiracy. The original shots can be used, but the use of some post production software to create smoother transitions should not be too difficult. Comparable to the smoothing of the morphs TOS-R did in The Menagerie for Vina's change to reveal her true form.

I, for one, am very happy the team wants to change as little as possible. This isn't like TOS remastered in HD where the new FX were simply a bonus having nothing to do with the remaster. In the case of TNG, where they have no choice but to recreate some of the FX, I'm glad they want to keep the integrity of the original show. I say bring on the "Angel One" matte painting again and again, bring on the Excelsior, and bring on the phasers firing from the photon torpedo tude.

Heck, you remember all those vector graphics in original BSG? Those were cell animation. No cgi involved.
Are you sure? BSG had actual Tektronix computer graphics terminals right on their bridge set, and a number of the displays seen sure look like actual Tektronic graphics.

Don't forget the mighty Ambassador class! I always felt that it was very under represented.

Doug Drexler just announced on his blog that both he and Dan Curry will join the remastering project tomorrow. :)

Jörg

Oh this is awesome, Drexler is one of my favorite Trek people ever.

RAMA

I think Drexler and I like that he interacts with the fans...but he takes (what I feel are unecessary) shots at TOS-R there. In the past he's also taken shots at the JJ-Enterprise--which I thought was weird considering how much be defended the 'Akiraprise' which also was highly criticized.

The language used on Doug's site is interesting:

Unlike the remastering of TOS, this job will be 100% true to the original. Visual effects shots will not be reinvented, pulling you out of the show.

Is this an admission that TOS-R was not very well done?

I read it to mean that it will be done differently.

That just sounds like a man voicing his opinion to me. Just because he likes one, doesn't mean he has to like another.

It does seem to be lightly critical of the TOS remastering project. Of course, Drexler wasn't involved in that, so calling it an "admission" of anything isn't accurate; he's an artist stating an opinion.

I think it's the "pulling you out of the show" part that seems critical.

The people who want to change nothing are as annoying to me as the people who want to change everything.
