Maybe I'm missing something, but these two shots are different shots. On the right you can see the upper side of the secondary hull, which is not visible at all in the image to the left.

I wasn't trying to match shots, I was pointing out detail differences between the six-foot miniature and the new CG model. I just used two shots that were close enough to do the comparison.

I'd like to see the ships rescaled too.

But it doesn't look like they're doing that based on the Ent-D with the Hood shot.

Well the Excelsior was always accepted to be a bit bigger than the other 23rd century ships (and has such a different design), that it never really looked that strange to me being the same size as the Ent-D.

And looking at Probert's size chart on this page, it doesn't really look that far off from what we see on screen:
http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/articles/excelsior-size.htm

Yeah, the Excelsior shots never bothered me much they always looked a bit right as the Excelsior is pretty grand herself as McCoy himself says in TUC. "That's a big ship!"

And I've got to say, I love Probert's original design for the Ambassador class. I know it won't happen but it'd be great to see his original concept of a more curvier Ambassador (serving as a bridge between the Excelsior and Galaxy) in "Yesterday's Enterprise" as opposed to the more practical to build model they went with.

Yeah I know this is probably sacrilege, but I've never really cared for the Enterprise-C design. Obviously it was cool getting to see an entirely new ship in that episode, but the design itself always looked a little too... short and dumpy to me.

Can't say I'm crazy about Probert's version either though. He basically just put the saucer and nacelles of the Ent-D on the Excelsior, and I just don't think it really works.

I've no real problem with either version of the ship, it looks like an obvious enough "stepping stone" between the late-23rd century ships and the late-24th century ships. That it has elements of the early period's grand design (the Excelsior) and the later period's grand design (the Galaxy) shows the evolution between the two periods.

But the Probert original I think shows this growth and connection a bit better, though the Ambassador we see in "YE" looks pretty good if a bit too mid-23rd than late. If anything I was more disappointed with the look of the bridge which I would have expected to be somewhat grander looking not for just being the period's capital ship but for being an Enterprise but it was yet the umpteenth re-dress of the Ent-Nil bridge from TWK. Which, yeah, is an element of production budgets and such. But it really shows. The bridge just lacks a certain magic.

Hey, I just wondered.

How well do you think they're going to be able to re-create the Enterprise-Nil bridge from TOS in "Relics"? In that episode only a portion of it was built as a physical set the rest we see was edited in from, I believe, the original series' film stills. I wonder how much better this process will look when done today.

Prophets, I can't wait to see "Booby Trap" in HD. The asteroid field, the Enterprise shots, the holodeck set, everything. I'm just rewatching it right now.

Edit: Great music, too.

Booby Trap probably has the best music of the series and yeah the visuals in that episode should translate very nicely to HD. :)

Ugh.

Watching "The Emissary" right now and the panels covering the glares in the aft stations are very obvious. The Blu-Ray is going make this painful.

Well if nothing else, they should be able to use the higher definition image that TOS-R created. The transition from the 'This Side of Paradise' shot to the sharper and cleaner looking recreated set always did look a bit obvious to me.

Speaking of which, it's kind of a shame we never got to see Picard sitting in Kirk's old chair. That would have been quite a strange sight!

I wouldn't put it past them to replace those with LCARS displays, or just hiding them better on the HD release.
Especially if they really stand out.

The tracking software of today is very powerful.

After watching EaF for the third time, I can say, is that I desperately want to see the Pilots of DS9 and VOyager done. They should be exceptionally beautiful.

As for TNG, I really look forward to The LAst OUtpost (I mean they really pushed to make that crappy set look good)< The Big Goodbye, 11001001, Datalore, Heart of Glory and WHere No One has Gone Before.

Second Season I really want to see The Child (Another terrible episode, but its exceptionally well shot), Elementary Dear Data, Pen Pals, A Matter of Honor, Q-Who, Measure of a Man (well its a great episode, I always love watching it), Q-Who, and the wonderful look of Time Squared.

Just so long as the asteroids don't look like the bunched up plastic shopping bags floating past Troi's window in "These Are The Voyages..."; they need to look like real rocks!

I dunno, the boards weren't replaced in EaF (I think there's a couple of scenes with them visible) and replacing them in the BD would require substantial work. We may just have to accept them being there.

It's pretty OT, but I read an article the other day that said that when you screw up a piece of paper into a ball, you're making a shape so complex that they can't actually program a computer to simulate the shape- it's just too random.

Andy did not simply plop the saucer and nacelles of the D on Excelsior. He tried to find a design which suggested an evolutionary step between the ships. You might not like the design, but it's not as you're characterizing it.

^Well the Probert design for the Ambassador certainly shows an evolutionary step between the Excelsior and Exclesior.

From memory (ie: Don't quote me :) ) they built a wedge of set which you can see Scotty walking on and sitting down in. The first shot when the doors open is a still from a TOS episode which featured the bridge empty, and the shot of the viewscreen is footage from a TOS episode. (Pre-remastering, naturally. You can even see a hair on the footage.) So hopefully, they'll use the remastered TOS footage for the still and the viewscreen. Surely they will.
