Why do any of you think that Tobias Richter is involved or his model has been used? Where are you getting this info or base this assumption on?

Because you can look the model and tell that it's his.

Check out the windows on the neck - the same ones are lit on both models with only the colours changed.

Would've been best to go to Mr. Probert for the static shots and he could do a proper matte painting! The shot of the Enterprise in space dock (11001001) is one of his paintings iirc

I'd love to see that matte redone with CGI to liven it up, add detail and all. I can't wait to see Season 1.

It's possible that Mike is mistaken, of course, if this isn't a shot he personally worked on. Not likely, but anything is possible.

I'm quite sure he's mistaken - the pattern of lit windows in that shot on the ship matches those on Richter's model perfectly.

I would also like to point out this isn't unprecedented. I know for a fact this happened on Enterprise with certain folks who weren't part of Eden FX. It wouldn't be anything weird or illegal or anything like that, I'm just saying its not yelled from the rooftops by everyone.

The BSG VFX crew did this too. The Berzerk class escort fan design wound up in the Scorpion Fleet Yard footage in BSG: Razor.

Exactly, but they didn't go and make a press release about it. That's my point, it probably is Tobias Richter's mesh, but if you go asking Mike Okuda and CBS, they won't say its his thanks to the personal politics of the situation.

I'd rather see them replace the E with the D in First Contact and decanonize Generations.

I'd prefer it the other way round. I much prefer the E-D over the E and it looked fantastic in Generations. Such a shame they got rid of it

Richter isn't just a fan, he's doing CG-work for a living.

Using Richter's model for TNG-R would be no different than using Koerner's model for TatV (other than Richter's is better :P ). They're both digital artists who happen to be Trek fans and got to work on the show.


At this point we don't know anything other than what we've been told (the CG model has not been used yet). Anything other than that is pure speculation.

Yes it would. Gabe was working at Eden FX at the time who had the gig to work on Enterprise. To my knowledge, while Tobias is a pro who's been doing it for many years, he has no official relationship with TNG-R. Unless of course its just kept quiet.

And Richter works for The Light Works, which is working on other Star Trek related projects for CBS. Would it really be unreasonable it think they hired his company to work on this too?

Exactly. People keep jumping to the conclusion that it IS Richter's model when he denies it, Mike Okuda denies it AND there's no way the model, in its currently announced state could do some of the shots (saucer separation). People have also noted the huge scale difference between the filmed model and his CG version. Ihighly doubt CBS would use such a different model.

If they really did make scans of the 6 footer before selling it, you would hope they would base any CGI model on that.

I agree. I thought I read/heard that somewhere, but I don't remember the source.
