The official, new corridor shot thread!

I quite like it. The lighting doesn't bother me at all, as it's actually more consistent with a vessel that has limited power generation capabilities . That's the one thing that always bothered me about TNG, Voyager etc, particularly Voyager - they were always banging on about having limited energy supplies and the need to conserve what little resources they did have, but every set was almost comically overlit. I find this approach of "functional lighting" to be quite refreshing for Trek.

Hmm... I don't know if "functional lighting" would be quite the way I'd phrase it. If you're trying to make do with a limited power budget, those focused, direct fixtures aren't giving you much bang for the buck. I think you could make the same space much brighter (and probably using the same wattage/candlepower/what-have-you) with 50%/50% diffuse/direct fixtures. You could even do away with the "futuristic" tracer lights around the frames.

Of course, the lighting would be much more efficient if the corridor was painted white, the way it is in the windowless corridors and service spaces of many ships, IIRC. (But, this being modern science fiction, we cannot do without the gritty ambiance... ;))

since this is a prequil it makes since that the coridors would look different therefore the ship gets a refit before Kirk and once more after the 5 year mission and the the Enterprise-A besides it still could be under construction, which may involve a scene like the one in VOY. when the captian visits the ship before it's finished.

I still wanna know where this prequal notion comes from, yes its a prequal to the latter series but Ive not seen anything which suggests that this isnt going to be Kirks Enterprise, after all how can Chekov be in the film if Kirks not the captin...unless they change the crews ages drastically

I kinda like the corridor, although it looks a bit too Klingon..needs to be brighter

I've noticed that this corridor includes a feature that I've always thought should be included on star ships: Rails, something to grab onto when the ship is making sharp maneuvers or otherwise being thrown about. Functional. :)

The photo may not be representative. Or maybe it shows ship's night. Or maybe Pike had Remans in his crew. Or moles. Otherwise-

If I had to serve a five year mission on a ship this dark, I would kill myself. The whole crew would have seasonal affective disorder or clinical depression. And Vitamin D deficiencies. If they beam down on a bright day, they'll need sunglasses, or else they'll all be blinded.

To boldy go . . . in search of a flashlight.

"To boldy go . . . in search of a flashlight."

"I am...The Underminer!"

-The Incredibles

Cool! Will Spock be the Thing, Kirk be Mr. Fantastic, Uhura be Invisible Woman, and Sulu be The Human Torch? :D

Lots of conflicting info out there. theres a Captain Christopher Pike role[the guy who was the previous commander of the Enterprise before Kirk], and Kirk is principally being played by a guy in his 20s whereas he became captain around the age of 34. OTOH, the conflicting bit is as you mentioned- there's a Chekov character who didn't show up on the Enterprise until the second year, and furthermore Sulu is being played by a 35 yr old, making him older than both the actors portraying Kirk and Spock.

It doesn't make a whole lotta sense at this point but the fact that they got a B list name [Bruce Greenwood] to portray Pike means he'll be there for more than mere window dressing so my money is on prequel.

As far as lighting vs. power consumption goes, don't you think that by the 23rd century we'll have come up with more energy efficient lighting? I mean if we've already got stuff like LEDs which are low power, bright lights, won't they have something more advanced like - I dunno - glowing nanoparticle paint?

All of this stuff seems like misdirrection to me.. Think about it- Everything is still SOOO far away that it would've taken a LOT of effort to get all this done and have the meetings necessary to finalize it all so early in the game. There's still gotta be someone at the studio who gives stamps of approval to stuff. I just don't see this being buttoned down this early in production time-- waaaaay too soon.

I think the MARKETING is what we all should be thinking about, cause the more they do stuff like this and release it into the wild then the more they know people like us are going to talk about it and write about it and post about it and on and on .. . and so word of mouth on the movie goes through the roof. Just my 2cents.

Valar --

Kirk was 30 or 31 when he took command, Chekov was there in season 1 because Khan saw him there, and the guy who plays Sulu could easily pass for mid to late 20's...And TOS Movies did just fine with "B" actors in the lead roles; ST:XI may do just fine also.

However, I'm not sure how Chekov will relate to Kirk in this film. Maybe Chekov was an Academy cadet/trainee temporarily assigned to the Enterprise when he was 18 or 19 years old. There IS pecedent for cadet trainees to get assigned deep space posts.

Or possibly the timeline is altered in such a way (plot rumor) that Pike is still the Captain during the TOS era instead of Kirk.

I actually have no idea...I'll just wait and see.

The Five Stages of Grief:

1. Shock and denial
2. Volatile Reactions
3. Disorganization and despair
4. Reorganization

This torrider, ship, welding, and the Earth construction are in the movie.

You think it's odd that they've got the details finalized for sets they're currently shooting on?

Well, I really doubt they're shooting on the outside hull of the ship!

What I mean is, it just seems like they'd want to keep as much as possible under wraps until the actual premiere- seems even more important with a movie like this where they're sort of trying to "save" the whole Trek property. I'd keep as much as possible of the REAL sets and designs a secret so as to have there be that much more build-up on the actual release date. Afterall, that's what most people are thinking about the exterior of the ship so far- that its just a stand-in for the teaser trailer and not the real McCoy- so to speak.

this is the main reason I mentioned it- in the series itself, Chekov didn't show up until year two- after the Khan episode- but in Wrath of Khan of course, Khan recognized him- that was a main stickler for the nitpickers out there- the only reason I know Chekov came on in year two- otherwise really who cares?

I'm gonna wait and see as well.

Well, if we want to play that game, Chekov just wasn't a bridge crewman or a main shift bridge member until season 2. :p

As for the speculation that our corridor is a jeffery tube, I going to say no because it looks too high to be a tube. It really does look like a full-blown corridor.

What if JJ is making the decks different from each other, this could be an engineering deck...

Thats a good point, it could be a service corridor which would be like a Jefferies tube but full size...didnt the TOS ships have them or was it just the versio from ENT?

Remember from Star Trek V Scotty knocks himself out on a pipe in one of the service corridors, but the other corridors were pipeless.

Here is a brighter version for all the darkness haters.
