The official "I vow not to spoil myself anymore" thread

Star Treks

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
I promised I wouldn't watch clips, read spoilery reviews, or dig deep into threads that discuss the plot of the movie. But I'm too excited about it, and I haven't been able to resist, and now I feel like I've practically seen it.

I hereby put forward a public vow:

"From now until I see the film, I will not watch any more clips of Star Trek or read any more than the brief (Tomatometer-style) summaries of reviews."

This means I am going to have to be very strong and not read much more in this forum, check out any more "exclusive clips" or microanalyze every new press review.

It's going to be tough. Does anyone want to join me in this solemn oath? ;)

Also, this brings up an interesting side question: For you, how much "spoilerage" is enough? When does it reach the exact right amount, and when does it start to become too much? For months I wanted to see more advertising, now I'm feeling like the promotion shouldn't include any new images because I've seen so much already... but how do you feel?

well, what's interesting is that I got spoiled very early on with one MAJOR spoiler. after that, I heard a few things, more minor but I considered myself pretty spoiled even though I stayed out of the spoiler thread.

however, I just saw the movie last week at a free screening in my city, and I can tell you this in all honesty:

even the most hardcore spoilage will not prepare you for the movie itself. oh, it's not the plot or the premise or even the dialogue. rather, it's the emotional impact. this movie is emotionally intense and chockful of character interaction and moments. and all the spoilage will not have prepared you for that barrage.

so, it's fine if you don't want to be spoiled. I admire your tenacity and determination. but if you are spoiled inadvertently (as I was), rest assured that actually watching the movie is imperative.

Thanks for your thoughts. I know I'm going to love it regardless. I already have my six tickets (me + family) for the opening show on May 7, and I wouldn't be surprised if I immediately go and buy more tickets for the second show that very night. It's gonna be great :)

Good for you. I was pretty pissed when I read the spoiler that Sulu is actually a bad guy and kills Pike, but that was nothing compared to finding out that Avery Brooks has a surprise appearance as Emissary Sisko. :p

I'm not watching the new clips that appeared today and will not watch any new material.
I think I can hold for 11 days!

:guffaw:

Dont forget that due to time travel screwing everything every which way but loose, young Kirk and Spock enter the lithium cracking station on Delta Vega and come accross there slightly older selves imprissoning Gary Mitchell there. So, yeah, Gary Mitchell is in the movie.

Seriously though, i know what you mean.

Ive avoided spoilers and reviews and stuff like that and even the new clips (so far), however, i went into a news agents and found myself buying SFX, Star Trek Mag UK and Sci Fi Now to read when i go away next friday.

Were a strange breed, us Trek fans.

It's funny you've posted this because today I've vowed to not watch anymore clips, read anymore interviews, and definitely avoid spoilers. I know all I want to know about the movie.

I've read the prequel comics which are a good set up.

I have a basic idea of the plot, but I don't know how it's going to be resolved. I don't know for certain how (or if) they're going to restore the timeline. I don't know what is going to happen to Nimoy's Spock.

There's some minor details I kind of wish I didn't know
like some romance between Spock and Uhura?
but over all I think I'm in pretty good state. Here's to hoping those of us who want to be relatively unspoiled can stay that way. :)

I thought I was going to have to shun this site, but people have been great so far at using the spoilers code and not mentioning them unnecessarily in threads. I am careful and much more selective about what threads I open in this forum though. I look forward to that ending soon!

Wel, I have avoided watching those new clips.
And it is hard believe me...Captain Robau is in one of them.:klingon:

I know, i found myself debating wehter or not to watch them, especially the Robau one.

I resisted though.

This thing with Robau is insane... I have not seen the guy speak a single line and he is already one of my favorite captains

I blame the Trekbbs.
But I will resist and will not watch the clips.

As anyone who visits the Lost forum knows I am a certified spoilerwhore, but I'm going to try and avoid any more Star Trek spoilers if I can help it.

Me too. I've spoiled myself more than usual for a movie or TV show (too curious about this one to stop myself), and I'm trying to stay out of this frakkin' forum but it's like crack! :rommie:

I'm usually very strong willed about spoilers, too. :( I've read only one (what I would assume is a) major spoiler, but have no idea how or if the whole timeline-reset thing comes about, or how Nimoy's Spock's story is resolved, does he live or die, does he vanish in a poof of timeline illogic, etc.

I am doing my best to avoid all spoilers now, but its becoming extremely difficult. Threads that seem benign are turning out to contain spoiler conversations. I’ve been hit with two spoilers without warning in the past two days (on various boards I visit). At this point, I may have to hide out in a cave for the next twelve days to prevent having the movie completely ruined for me.

I vowed the same thing, and held off for 2 days. Now, I've seen all the clips, photos, music that I can possibly get my hands on. :shifty:

This is exactly the thread I was looking for. I must make the same vow. When Trekmovie put up four new clips yesterday I said enough was enough, I'm making a tactical retreat.
