I can totally see where The Borgified Corpse is coming from. In recent years, looking back at Who, though, I've found a certain sexiness to both Pertwee and Tom Baker's Doctors. There's something about 3's lavish clothing, his energy and his chivalry that makes him attractive. I'm not sure what it is about 4. Although there's something about the waistcoat and boots that help! I think though that there's a combination of him being dangerous to be around combined with his intellect that contributes to it. I was reading a Peter Davison interview in SFX recently where he was talking about the strictures on not touching his female companions (even when they were in distress) and how determined TPTB were to keep any hint of sexuality out of the TARDIS.

Well, one of the things that I think helped keep romance out of the classic series was that none of the classic Doctors were as conventionally "sexy" as Christopher Eccleston & David Tennant. William Hartnell & Patrick Troughton were both old. Tom Baker, Colin Baker, & Sylvester McCoy were all goofy character actors. Peter Davison was the most handsome of the classic Doctors but I also feel there was an intense asexuality to his performance. Jon Pertwee was probably the sexiest of the classic Doctors but even that was in more of an older, Sean Connery sort of way.
I've never considered any of the Doctors attractive, never mind hot - and that includes Eccleston and (especially) Tennant. I think it simply never occurred to anyone to have romance as a component in classic Who. It was initially planned as a way to teach kids some history and became an adventure-type series that appealed to all ages. Romance simply wasn't necessary.

Rose is the companion that had the serious romantic thing for the Doctor. That part of his relationship with SJS was retconned by RTD in School Reunion. It was never actually something we saw in the classic series.
Agreed. It was the one false note in "School Reunion", for mine. All the classic Who eps with Sarah-Jane never left me with the impression that she was in love with the Doctor. And I've seen all of them often enough to form a pretty good impression.

Having said all that, and as I've stated previously, I'm not anti-romance where Who is concerned. So long as it's done well, I couldn't care less. But that's the key - doing it well and believably. It certainly hasn't happened yet, IMO, but YMMV.

So says you. I know there are plenty of people who think each of the previous Doctors were sexy. ;)

Indeeeeed. *does not say how long she's been lusting after Tom Baker* :shifty:

Voted for:

Leela
Romana
Nyssa
Ace
Martha [strikethrough]Stewart[/strikethrough]Jones

While I love most of the companions, these are my top five:

1. Romanadvoratrelundar
2. Leela
3. Ace
4. K-9
5. Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart

Who I voted for does not match all of my personal favorites becuase my two sons who are 12 and 11 wanted to be a part of the vote so I let them pick some of their favorites. So together we voted:

The Brig
Sarah Jane
K9
Rose
Donna

Its funny how my sons have only been exposed to K9 in the brief glimpses of the new series, and K9 has already made a strong impression on them. I guess K9 still does what he was originally suppose to do ... pull in the kids. I have to admit, that I even have a soft spot for that old tin dog. Any way.......

Here are the companions "I" would have voted for:

The Brig
Sarah Jane
Leela
Rose
Donna

Honorable mentions:

Jamie ( I've only seen him in Tomb of the Cyberman but I like the way he related to the Doctor. Can't wait to see more of him.)
Harry
K9
Romana I & II

Agreed. For that matter, I think that Sarah Jane's entire description of how the Doctor "dumped" her in "School Reunion" does not at all jive with what actually happened in "The Hand of Fear." Firstly, immediately before the Doctor told her that she had to leave, she was ranting about how she wanted to leave. Secondly, it's not like he left her without explanation. He told her that he had to go back to Gallifrey.

Exactly. The "Sarah-Jane was in love with the Doctor" aspect of "School Reunion" reeked of a conveniently retconned tie-in to Rose's (potential) situation. It certainly didn't look to have actually happened in classic Who - well, not in the eps I watched, anyway. Perhaps we got different versions here in Australia or something. :p

Much as I enjoy "School Reunion" - as I've said before, it's one of my favourites in new Who - that really does stand out as a false note thrown in to serve a plot point...and nothing more.

First, Sarah packing up to leave was a joke, seeing if the Doctor would actually pay attention to her. Second, she doesn't say he didn't tell her why. She's upset that he didn't come back.

Sarah Jane
K9
Romana (either one will do)
Turlough (yeah, I'm really in the minority with this one)
Donna Nobel (she's become a close second to Sarah Jane for me)

Okay, as promised, I went back and looked at the poll I did a year ago. Rose had 37 votes, while Donna had a whopping 3 votes (although it should be noted I only allowed four votes last time, but there were about 70 voters overall). This time around, Rose has only 22 votes to Donna's 40!

Wow.

I was really pissed when I heard that Donna was coming back. I hated her in Runaway Bride. I'm not sure how it happened, but she really grew on me. Guess I'm not the only one.
