The Not-So Virgin Queen

^^^ Probably just extending the existing trend out towards the future. In the past, the King had lots of power, now has hardly any, in the future, probably won't exist.

Hereditary nobility IS a very unegalitarian and anti-progressive concept, you know.

One of Chucky's names is "Arthur". What if he decided to go with "King Arthur"? Does the (fictional) King Arthur count as Arthur I or do possibly apocryphal kings not count?

What do you think? Of course bloody not ;)

Hey, if it were any other King than Arthur, I wouldn't have asked. Arthur is kind of a "big deal" in English history/mythology/national identity, in case you haven't noticed. ;)

The historical Anglo-Saxon kings have not "counted" in terms of numbering (otherwise, Edward VIII would have been Edward XI), though in college I heard that if Henry VIII's brother Arthur had lived to reign he may have taken the name Arthur II.

So I take it that the number scheme only counts from William the Conqueror onwards then?

personally speaking, i'd like a republic because QE2, Anne and Wills aside, i don't much care for the Royals, i'm sick of Philip's stupid bigoted comments and if we were to seize her lands, assets and properties we wouldn't be in debt up to our eyeballs nationally.

societally, it's probably a thing for British dystopias to do away with the Royals because it's an easy, obvious change to make. Ooo, everything's gone wrong because we kicked the Royals out. like, i dunno, adding states to America or having the South win the Civil War for Yanks is a big deal.

as for British society... well... some say we're on the verge of going totalitarian as it is, but that's BS. we only put up with Tory incompetence for 18 years, we'd never put up with a dictator for long.

I'll just take your word on that then.

18 years of Tory incompetance followed by 13 of Labour? Oh well definitely time for a change then.

And I don't think we will become a Republic anytime soon. Read an interesting article just last week that said it won't happen because the Royals just aren't relevanrt enough, ie we don't hate them enough.

Personally I have more time for a lot of the higher echelon Royals than certain politicians of any stripe. Two royal princes have been to war in recent years, how many MPs.

And yeah Capcalhoun, take all the Queen's money and land, I'm sure Gordon could blow it very quickly. Trouble is you've then got to take into account all the lost tourism revenue, all the good will she generates around the globe. Cut them back for sure, way too many minor royals, but on the day someone tries to turn us into a Republic I'll be over with the Cavaliers ;)

Either your humor detector is broken, or mine is.

I'm not sure which at this point!

Dan, should I tell him you're a humorless twat, or do you want to do it?

I have a sense of humour, it is very dark and twisted and what Chaos referred to is not humour, but yes, if you so wish you can tell him that I am a derogatory phrase for a ladies bits when it comes to a lack of humour   :p

"Saturday, Donny, is Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest. That means that I don't work, I don't get in a car, I don't fucking ride in a car, I don't pick up the phone, I don't turn on the oven, and I sure as shit don't fucking roll! Shomer shabbos!"
