I think you're glossing the bad and elevating the mediocre, lumping the whole TOS in a group with the best eps, and declaring it to be a cut above anything done before or since.

You know, there's a truly remarkable level of condescension involved in the insistence that nine out of ten fans on this BBS are engaged in "just taking any old crap that Paramount sticks the 'Trek' label on," or that they're exhibiting "Stockholm syndrome" or several of the other gambits that the small minority of posters who are flatly antipathetic to the new movie repeatedly invoke in order to dismiss the vast majority of fans who find their arguments unpersuasive in the face of what they're actually seeing.

When almost everyone disagrees with one, one can either accept the possibility that one's point-of-view may be limited or insist that "everybody's out of step but Johnny." Several of the most insistent anti-Abrams posters opt stubbornly for the latter.

Respecting the right of people to express any opinion they like is basic fairness. Treating the content of every opinion as if it's equally worthy of respect as any other opinion is simply foolish and unnecessary.

Trek XI is new continuity and has nothing to do with whatever has been established before...except maybe for ENT.

I've liked other shows and movies that looked nothing like TOS, but they had similar sensibilities in how they told their stories. That is what I'd really like to see again.

The point is: a trailer can make you think a movie is about X while in actuality it is about C.

Okay, regarding the topic, as Ptrope says (how do you pronounce that, BTW? "Prope?" P-Trope?) Anyway, I just don't get why there's so much hate for this Enterprise. It is different, and I could see where that would bother folks if it didn't have a point, but I seem to recall reading over at TrekMovie that there is a narrative reason why this Enterprise looks different. Regardless of that, though, a lot of folks are dissing this ship based on one little ol' angle. The 3D thread has done an awesome job of showcasing that this ship can/very likely will look great on the big screen and from different angles! I'm looking forward to seeing more of her! -Dan
