The New Enterprise Reveald

No, I want more of that kind of storytelling, which I seriously doubt Abrahms and group will deliver. Just as TPTB have been unable to do by and large.

So, you're judging the quality of a script and story-telling style that hasn't been revealed to us in full?

How is that smart?

Secondly, I think you're forgetting that TOS dropped its share of turds, as well.

I think you're glossing the bad and elevating the mediocre, lumping the whole TOS in a group with the best eps, and declaring it to be a cut above anything done before or since.

I agree in one sense, that the best eps are a cut above.

But here's where we differ:

The mediocre ones are just okay. (Let's get in on a Piece of the Action)

The stinkers are embarassing to watch now with someone who is not a fan. (Kirok anyone? Or let's check in on those Yangs, or see what the space hippies are up to before we sit in on the operation to retrieve Spock's brain).
Yes! I'm judging the damned thing by what we've seen so far. What's so freakin' hard to understand about that. We judge trailers and advance promo material all the time to look for SOME indica

Calm down. This is not the end of the world.

When appropriate.

You know, there's a truly remarkable level of condescension involved in the insistence that nine out of ten fans on this BBS are engaged in "just taking any old crap that Paramount sticks the 'Trek' label on," or that they're exhibiting "Stockholm syndrome" or several of the other gambits that the small minority of posters who are flatly antipathetic to the new movie repeatedly invoke in order to dismiss the vast majority of fans who find their arguments unpersuasive in the face of what they're actually seeing.

When almost everyone disagrees with one, one can either accept the possibility that one's point-of-view may be limited or insist that "everybody's out of step but Johnny." Several of the most insistent anti-Abrams posters opt stubbornly for the latter.

Respecting the right of people to express any opinion they like is basic fairness. Treating the content of every opinion as if it's equally worthy of respect as any other opinion is simply foolish and unnecessary.

Trek XI is new continuity and has nothing to do with whatever has been established before...except maybe for ENT.

Your sig says:

Lets get back to space adventure, strange new worlds and the final frontier... Contemporary Trek has failed.

But you don't want to go back to that era, you just want to go back to that design-aesthetic.
I've liked other shows and movies that looked nothing like TOS, but they had similar sensibilities in how they told their stories. That is what I'd really like to see again.

I don't get that impression from all we've seen and heard so far regarding Abrahm's project.

Yes, that is the same thing you told me yesterday, in your reply to that very post of mine.

We haven't seen or heard even remotely enough to finally judge this film.

The point is: a trailer can make you think a movie is about X while in actuality it is about C.

Don't forget that we're all plants, working for Paramount to generate a buzz for this failure of a film. ;)

Okay, regarding the topic, as Ptrope says (how do you pronounce that, BTW? "Prope?" P-Trope?) Anyway, I just don't get why there's so much hate for this Enterprise. It is different, and I could see where that would bother folks if it didn't have a point, but I seem to recall reading over at TrekMovie that there is a narrative reason why this Enterprise looks different. Regardless of that, though, a lot of folks are dissing this ship based on one little ol' angle. The 3D thread has done an awesome job of showcasing that this ship can/very likely will look great on the big screen and from different angles! I'm looking forward to seeing more of her! -Dan

I disagree, the 3D thread just fueled my dislike of that monstrosity even more, its bad looking and redicilous from every angle shown it has no grace and no style and don't get me started on the disco deflector dish.
As for the interior I loathe the iPod shop bridge ewww hiddious.
To each their own but don't try and wave away the opnion of people who just happen to hate the design.

But then, that model isn't particularly good.

I think that Madman's model is good enough to get a general feel for the lines and shapes it has, the way of the various parts connect despite not being entirely accurate.

Very, very, very, VERY general...

I I were you I'd have a look at judexavier's and ancient's 2D-work.

^^ Oh I wasn't aiming at anyone specific don't worry, I just noticed that there have been some snapping here and there between the various opinions. ;) in my case no harm done, i know that I myself are not that good at making my own points clear in a diplomatic way. aka I'm a rude overbearing loudmouth megalomaniac. ;)
