That's a nice deja-vu moment for me. Some of my earlier renders (from 2001 and 2002) look just like this image of yours.
Hell, I even used the same font and separated the black bars from the image with the same white line

The planet (with all the textures) was created by a guy named Fabio Passaro.
I just scaled, lighted and placed the mesh in the scene and hit F9 (Render)

No, it certainly isn't. And it isn't even particularly accurate.
But it is very well modelled. And even though it's been around for a very long time it still holds up pretty nice against newer (and more accurate) meshes of the Voyager.

Personally, I prefer Sarod's all-details-modelled mesh over any of the newer textured-details meshes that are now out there.

I have seen other Intrepids, but I agree it's the best version out there. I've seen this in a lot of different game mods & wallpapers.

I don't know... Maybe a giant air filter?

I just needed something up there. Maybe it's a sensor pod, or it could be the Antimatter storage tank. I like that last idea.

Done some more work...

I think the inboard idea was ok, but I'm giong to go for a more traditional approach.

I think they are going to be on the end of the wings, kind of the way the Vorcha Class looks.
