The New Enterprise in 3D! ... NOW FINISHED (threads merged)

I like em both, even though I think MadMan's nacelles are closer to the actual length, and that ancients are closer to the actual shape.

More trippiness....

See, this is what I'm talking about! 3 different interpretations. Some things different, some things closer in line...

Man this is a blast. :) :)
Wish I could have indulged in this kind of discussion years ago.

From putting this together, I can see my view of the nacelles are way too "under-endowed". (Viagra anyone?).

And that the saucer is really huge.

I'm reminded of, way back when, when nobody knew what a MIG-29 looked like, and there were all sorts of Pentagon conjectural guesses...or the "F-19 Stealth fighter"....that was fun.

Judexavier, is that your design on top?? I really like it. It seems to be the most accurate. Could you post or make a link to the design on top only? I would like to examine the details of that design. :techman:

This looks cool, can you go on and post your drawings? I think It looks Really good.

Some of these, though, look a little too curvy. I think the real thing (going off of the construction shot) is going to be a little more sharply defined.

I wish we could get a really good shot of this thing, in the correct perspective, and all that. I guess May will be here soon enough. :)

Agh, the pain!...and yet strangely arousing...

Yeah, I love this. I think it's neat to see how we all see the pics slightly differently, yet overall the ships are all clearly different takes on the same design. It's a lot like police sketches.

Maybe so, but I like their shape. I see you went for the non-roound nacelle caps.

It looks like my ship has the biggest butt. And the biggest thingies. I hope this doesn't reveal too much about myself...

...

MadMan, I think you put the engine hull side-cut too far down, it's not in the middle, it's up slightly higher.

Don't pay any attention to the weird thing on top. It was a rough sketch I have since given up on. Too '60's looking, IMO. ;)

(That comment was a meant to be a joke, based on my misunderstanding of Sarvek's post above...I thought he was referring to the TOS E above my rendering, but then I realized he was talking about the 3 layer image....duh!
I get CONFUSED! I'm old! I quit drinking this week!...:)

Anyway...

Yeah, you're right. It might be time to abandon this, and start on version 3. :)

Nah, I'll finish it anyway.

Holy cats, judexavier! Excellent work! It's gorgeous! :techman:

I second that! That is exactly what I was referring to. I was hoping that you would separate the layers to give a view of that ship. Truly fantastic work! :techman: I surely hope that you are going to do more views, Judeavier.

Done a little work...

What I've mainly done here is make the Nacelle Domes pointy, made the engines taper a some more, made the back end of the engines rounder, instead of elongated, and made the cowling on top of the Engines curve up some, instead of being straight.

I also shifted a few things around to try and match better with JudXavier's drawings...

Madman... can you show us this render overlaid on the official image? I'm presuming that you've got that up on an image-plane in your modeler, right?

I ask because I still get the feeling that Ancient's version is closer to the "reality" than yours is... but if yours matches the "on-screen images" better, I'd change my mind.

Wow, nice. :) I still think people are overreacting a bit with the way this looks, It's going to turn out just fine. :)

I think you hit the nail on head, here.

Do you have any other views?

I'll probably start on a plan view tomarrow. One glaring thing in that side view, my bridge dome isn't centered, so that will have to be fixed.

Thought I throw in a couple of tiny (very tiny) observations.:)

The "gill-slits", each of those seven struts gets thicker the closer to the back they get. (I THINK) And there might be more of a gap between the back of the cowl, and the rest of the nacelle (to let that blue light out).

There seem to be 2 different "side sensor" configurations, although the construction scene might show it covered or something?.

I think the nacelles are larger than what I drew, especially in that rear warp view in the trailer. Very "kicked up" look. And really humped/curved cowlings...

I can't stand my shuttle bay. (It doesn't look any better in thumbnail sketches from other views). I like the shape you've made.

Something about the lines; your model and Ancient's lines seem to have more movement or "flow" to them...while mine to me it looks like it's squatting on a toilet..?
Bad analogy I know, sorry.
I need to look at that overlay and see if I can figure that out. Sometimes even one or two lines or angles can make a huge difference.

One thing I keep wondering is how much variable/moving parts this thing might have...like swing wing jets, stills don't really capture the whole "experience"....

Well, this is awsome fun stuff anyway, can't wait to see more.:)

The problem with overlaying this on mine is that the perspective of the first image we saw was screwed up, big time, as you can see...

STXI_V2_Compare3.jpg

The green is the enterprise from the official picture (that had the shuttles removed) on top of mine. towards the center, it matches ok, but the farther you get outwards, it gets skewed.

Here's mine without the overlay.

STXI_V2_018.jpg

I know mine's not perfect, by a long shot, but the perspective in this image is throwing a lot of people off, I think.

@Judxavier, That's funny you say it looks like it's squatting on a toilet. :) I really think it's the perspective of these images we have to work with.

You are doing some fine work and will be looking forward to more. Your design seems to be quite accurate and precise. Keep up the great work!:techman:

I think you are getting close. I think its partially the camera lens screwing with the original image.

OK, one more update, and something interesting before I turn in.

This is where I was about a week ago...

I just thought the comparison would be interesting to see. :)
