The New Dax - Cooperative Writing DISCUSSION

yeah i was pretty sure that convulate wasn't a word. it was supposed to be a verb-ization of convulated. it felt appropriate for the joke. :) guess it misfired then.

anyways i'm with you Rushbo on this one. it would be better if ezri and julian never knew her. sad, but still better.

BTW...I dunno, but..."Sulhir" sounds kinda like a "male" name.

It just doesn't seem "feminine" enough for me to buy it being a girl name. "Ezri" and "Jadzia" and "Lela" and "Emony" (and, to a certain extent, Audrid) all had that "female" quality.

I dunno. What do you think? "Sulhira", perhaps? Or "Sulhina"? (Just expirimenting...trying to get the "exotic" quality of "Jadzia" and "Ezri"....)

well, i can see your point. Sulhir is merely a misspelling on my part. its not a valid name. softcanon, hardcanon or otherwise. but i kept it for my stories, with a Sully as a nickname. i kinda like it. but Sulhira is fine too. i'd rather not have Sulhina since its awfully close to an ex girlfriend (Suliana). but i can live with it anyways.

tiberius? your take on this? you have the deciding vote.

EDIT: now i've still haven't gotten any confirmation on this. but i made lieutenant Andrew Davis the helmsman. problem? i can remove him if you guys want. but we need a crew anyways. i can do the characterization on him.

Do some characterization on Davis and I'll tell you if I like him or not... :) Nah, just kidding. Go ahead, I don't have a problem with it.

Hmmm...Sulhir...Sulhira...either is fine but since I have the deciding vote...*flips coin*...let's go with Sulhira. She can still have the Sully nickname.

And if we're doing it like ST09 than maybe we should just extend the time he was rogue or serving on the Ballona...I think it makes it a bit more interesting if all the while he knew he 'had' a daughter though he was not able/allowed to see her. I thought we had dismissed the plot of Ezri not knowing her daughter but that's okay by me. We need a definite timeline though. We also need to establish just what constitutes Reassociation between 'parent' and 'child'. Obviously if they're on the same ship they can't simply ignore one another, especially if Dax is XO. Unless you don't like the same ship idea.

And yes, convoluted means ridiculously complicated and intricate.

Oh, one more thing. Tactical and Security CAN be the same but not necessarily...Worf had a Tactical position on DS9, not Security. In my fanfic the two are often separate so you have the tough guardian character (Security) and the also tough but more shrewd and calculating tactician. But having it be just one character could cut down on convolution.

Very well, timeline then.

2381: Ezri Dax assumes command of the Aventine.

2381: Valon transfers onto the Aventine as an engineer.
Valon transfers to command track. Assigned as beta shift CO.

2382: Ezri and Julian meet again since Ezri left ds9 in... hmm. late 2378(?)

2384: Ezri Dax and Julian Bashir are married.

2385: Valon assumes command of USS ? (something old... USS Hood perhaps?)

2393: Sulira is born. Ezri and Julian die the same day. Almost simultaneously. Lieutanant Commander Perjon Tilven(?) receives the Dax symbiont two days later.
Benjamin L. Sisko and Kasidy Yates adopts Sulhira Tigan/Bashir (we gotta decide.)

2394: Valon's previous command is decommissioned. Assigned as CO to the Sovereign class USS Trafalgar.

2397: The Intrepid class, USS Ballona is destroyed with all hands. Except for the XO, helmsman and a security noncom.
Perjon Dax resigns from Starfleet. Resignation not approved. Perjon Dax is labeled as a deserter by SFC. Gains reputation as an excellent smuggler.

2310: Sulhir Tigan/Bashir enlists in Starfleet. Science division

2414: Sulhir Tigan/Bashir graduates from the academy. Assigned to the USS Trafalgar with the rank of ensign.
The Trafalgar's XO is killed on a mission.
Valon starts his search for Dax. He finds him aboard DS9 two weeks later.

I love it. But anyhow...

Ezri (and therefore, Perjon) knows she has a daughter (remember, Ezri dies with her daughter in his arms).

So, I'd say--

Perjon finds out about Sulhira about, say, the second or third episode (the one I'll write)--and, as you two have said, it would be that discovery which drives him to bring up Ezri...who has been "hiding" deep inside for all this time.

As ye say, lad. :)

Excellent! :techman:

I particularly love the idea of--

Ben Sisko and Kassidy adopting Ezri's daughter. An excellent touch, I'd say!

BTW...personally, if she's going to be adopted by you-know-who, it makes sense that she'd take his last name.

(And...it was probably a mistake, BUT--I actually like "Sulira" even more than "Sulhira"! It actually rolls off the tongue a lot better, if you know what I mean....)

Finally...it's funny. If we accept Ezri's birth year from Memory Beta (2354) and her daughter's birth in 2393...she'd be the same age Nicole deBoer is, now!

Not necessarily. dunno how it is in the states but over here, if they know the child's name they usually keep it. the child doesnt always take the adoptive parents name. besides i think sisko would want her to keep her "real" last name. but we can make her a sisko anyways. its merely a technicality but its good idea.

I see your point. :techman: If Sulira is fine with Tiberius we can use it. i have no objections whatsoever.

Wow, i so didnt see that one coming. :) so that makes ezri 39 and julian 52. hmm... 13 years age difference.

^Meh, age doesn't matter. :)

Sulira's good, I like it.

And I realize I mistyped before...I meant the idea of Ezri not knowing her daughter as a person, not that she didn't know she had one. Anyways, I still like the idea and the Siskos adopting her is awesome. Maybe she could have a hyphenated name, Sulira Tigan-Bashir? I like that, personally.

And lets keep Valon's acting XO on board for the time being, in whatever position he held formerly. I liked the little bit of characterization you did for him. Of course he could barely stand Perjon, good basis for character conflict.

Well, if you don't mind, I'm gonna go do some characterization on a few characters...Valon, Donovan, and Ratagar. Also I've been doing Star Trek photomanipulations for a while so I might run some 'casting' ideas by you two a little later. Just a fun way to help visualize the characters.

hmm, remind me to tell you a story about a friend of mine. it does indeed matter. is some cases at least. nonetheless, the stupidities of the swedish legal system is not at question here...

Agreed. Sulira Tigan-Bashir

agreed. i put him in the ops and second officer position. good?

not at all. go ahead. been toying with photoshop myself. havent gotten any good results yet. havent used the damn thing since the CS2 beta lol. but aperture can do some interesting things as well.

oh and i'll post a few STO screenies with the USS Trafalgar.

Here's an idea--I've been thinking...perhaps Sulira starts out as "Sulira Sisko", but in the end of the "Ezri" ep, she accepts her past, her new "father" (whatever...), and becomes "Sulira Tigan-Bashir".

I dunno. Would you guys imagine her eagerly wanting to learn (from Sisko at first, and later Perjon) about what her parents were really like...or would she be more traumatized from it, and be rather detached and sad about life...?

^I think we could go either way, Rushbo. Both would be interesting and both could have her change from Sisko to Tigan-Bashir. Although I imagine Ben would want to tell her about her mother and father even if she didn't really want to hear it. I also wonder what her relationship with Jake would be like. Very good idea having the Siskos adopt her! :)

Ares, age matters sometimes...but in Ezri and Julian's case it's not a big deal. I didn't really mean it as a blanket generalization. :) And Donovan as 2nd Officer/Ops sounds great.

At any rate...one reason I waned it to be a girl is so the kid would have an air of Ezri's innocence. Still...I also like the concept of the strong element of sadness inside her. Somehow, the idea of her isolating herself from would-be friends on the Trafalgar.

As for Jake...well, if you remember the World of DS9 Bajor story, he's going steady with the Bajoran girl who we see as his wife in "The Visitor" timeline.

Still...I could really see Sulira (should it be pronounced "su-LI-ra", "su-LER-a", or "su-LEE-ra"?) having a good, deep friendship with Jake and his.

Rushbo, she's his adopted sister...I wasn't suggesting they have a romantic relationship. :) And I haven't read any DS9 relaunch novels at all so I don't have a clue. I actually haven't seen The Visitor either, I missed it in my DS9 marathon somehow. I should probably dig up the DVD and watch it sometime though. Silly me.

Anyhow, I think they'd have a good friendship.

I was pronouncing it "sue-leer-uh"

dunno, its a common occurrence that orphans have a negative view on life early in their life. but it tends to pass over time. there are of course exceptions but the majority passes that negative stage around their late teens. its usually worse around 13-17. after that its, statistically at least, a smooth sail.

i agree. i dont think sisko would keep anything about her parents from her considering the deep friendship he had with ezri and the daxes. and the sisko -) Tigan-Bashir name change would be an interesting twist to the story.

yes, i got that. i just wanted to point that even something menial as two months can be a big deal. now this of course has nothing to do with ezri and julian. it was just a fact i wanted to point out.

At any rate...one reason I waned it to be a girl is so the kid would have an air of Ezri's innocence. Still...I also like the concept of the strong element of sadness inside her. Somehow, the idea of her isolating herself from would-be friends on the Trafalgar.
excellent touch. and then at the rite ep. she starts opening up to her surroundings. lovely! :techman:

As for Jake...well, if you remember the World of DS9 Bajor story, he's going steady with the Bajoran girl who we see as his wife in "The Visitor" timeline.
right... why did i skip that book again? damn i gotta read that now. i hated unjoined so much that i skipped the rest too. stupid i know...

Still...I could really see Sulira (should it be pronounced "su-LI-ra", "su-LER-a", or "su-LEE-ra"?) having a good, deep friendship with Jake and his.

i vote for "su-lee-ra"

Ah. As you say, mate. :techman:

And..."Su/sue-leer-uh" it is!

^:D

So I've been thinking...

This is all pretend so it's not a big deal, but here are my preliminary casting ideas.

Valon - Patrick Dempsey or David Tennant or someone else...

Donovan - Liev Schreiber

Perjon Dax - Christian Bale

Sulira Sisko - Jordan Hinson or Rachel Bilson

Kelshayar - Yvonne Strahovski or Kristin Kreuk

You guys have any ideas?

Well, if we're looking for Ezri's daughter, a brunette with a soft, gentle face is a must. Thus, the second choice is preferable to the first. :)
