The new captain.

I think a Latin American captain would be great. Pedro Pascal comes to mind as a good fit, though the captain certainly doesn't need to be male.

Stealing an idea from Bry's avatar.
Jamie Bamber as the Captain.
With Tricia Helfer as his First Officer.

I'd like the Captain to be one of three options (in no particular order):
1. An Arabic woman
2. A gay male
3. An alien (female/male/transgender)

Variation on #1: how about an Iranian woman? I thought Shohreh Aghdashloo showed real actorial presence on 24 and think she'd make an intriguing captain.

Of course, the "new Captain" doesn't have to equate to the main character. Assuming the show is onboard a ship (as implied very loosely by the statement that they'll be "seeking new worlds"), it could still focus on a singular department or even a "Lower Decks" scenario in general, with the Captain being a character who might not even appear in every episode.
I really don't think they're going to change too much, it will most likely be ship with the captain and senior officers as the central characters.

My guess is that it will be a bit closer to the style of TNG to differentiate it a bit from the movies but not as stiff as the TNG crew sometimes was.

I would prefer a female captain and a lot of other female characters, Star Trek always had a majority of male characters, the numbers should be at least equal or give women the majority for once. I would like something like this:

Captain: female
First officer: female
Science officer: male
Pilot: female
Chief engineer: male
CMO: female
Counselor: male

The first officer would also be the tactical officer, I think those two roles could be easily combined, a separate security chief is not needed on the bridge and can do administrative work somewhere on the ship without ever appearing.
Troi wasn't always used right but I liked the idea, the counselor would also serve as a diplomatic officer/first contact expert, giving him a reason to be on the bridge. I specifically want the counselor to be male because it would defy expectations a bit if during a battle the men on the bridge are a scientist and a diplomat with not much to do while the women are in command, fly the ship and fire the weapons at the enemy.

No doctor? ;) (or is CMO the doctor?)

I don't care about the gender of the Captain or the relation between females and males.

To me is more important that I don't want a "sexy babe on high heels" on board. And also no dog that is kept in the private quarters almost all the time, which might be "cute" but is nothing but abuse of the animal.

Those things are soo obvious - a pain to watch. I fear we might get lots of that stuff anyway. No clowns, no annoying children too.

The Cpt. should not be stupid like Archer. It should be someone I could take seriously.

Maybe an alien Captain? You know, aliens love their children too (except Vulcans perhaps) but you hardly see them in command of a Starship. It would also be "different" enough to get attention.

gay characters: if Joss Whedon would do it, I'd say "no problem", he could do it without embarrass himself, the community and everybody else.

The new lead character will be a starbase bound Starfleet commodore, who slowly goes mad when every ship he orders into dangerous areas is destroyed by a different hostile menace every week, incurring the wrath of the rest of his captains, who plot to eliminate him.

Oh crap; I don't hate this. It's almost brilliant.

You can pretty much assume that the two main characters will be one heterosexual male and one heterosexual female. Beyond that, there's no telling.

The one I keep hoping for is Swedish actress Sofia Helin (from Broen, the original version of The Bridge): experienced in detective and historical fantasy genres, able to handle action, plays crazy without being over the top, great range.

As for the sexuality of the captain, I hope they make it up as they go.

Bruce Greenwood.

After his character uncovers some evidence of shady goings-on, he should wake up one morning and find that nobody remembers him, not even his wife and friends. Then he spends the rest of the series unraveling some Starfleet conspiracy and refusing to turn over the evidence in his possession.

CMO = Chief Medical Officer.

That would be great :bolian:

She would be amazing, I could listen to her pontificate for an entire episode quite happily :)

Ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation aside. I'd like to see a human born off Earth.

I nominate Faran Tahir to play the new Captain.

Or just have the movie set prior to Trek 09 and have him play
Robau and see that crew's adventures aboard the Kelvin. It would technically be in the Prime universe but with a nuTrek aesthetic. I could deal with that.
