The Never Ending Sacrifice extract in Star Trek Magazine #20

I hope at least 1/3 of the book focuses on life after the Dominion occupation. We haven't heard a lot about what went on during that time, just bits and pieces here and there.

Fantastic start to what I think will be a great book.

Kudos to Una McCormack and long live the new Cardassia!

Hi all - quick note as I'm on my hols with only intermittent net access, but thank you for enthusiasm about the excerpt!

Yeah, I read The Soul Key excerpt too. It was also really good, and just that little bit filled in quite a few gaps left over from Feaful Symmetry.

The excerpt looks pretty cool. It looks like Kotan Pa'Dar will have a fair amount of time as well. I hope he gets to be a relatively decent sort. He certainly seemed that way. Just a loving father who misses his son. I hope he and Rugal can patch things up.

That mother of his is a piece of work though.

::have NOT read the thread::

Just want to let you guys know that I am staying away from TNES discussion from this point forward, until the book comes out. I want the experience of this book to be special. Pristine and totally unspoiled. ;)

Although I think we both know how it ends:(

Hey, I just want to point out to people that there's a really cool article by me in the issue, too... ;)

Yes, I really am this narcissistic sometimes. :)

And according to my sources (namely, where I work), the issue should start showing up in the US next week.

:techman:I've read the Book excerpts for the The Soul Key and Never Ending Sacrafice.I really liked really the excellent chapters from both books.I can't wait for The Soul key to come in the mail so I can finally read the whole story.:)

Wow, I'm really impressed by that excerpt. One paragraph I was almost in tears and overall I'm very intrigued.

I was just surprised about Rugal's age. He was sixteen? Somehow my brain made me think he was twelve or something. Then again Chief O'Brien can't even get the age of his own daughter right, so why should I remember everything...

I'm terrible at judging ages, so anything from 12 to 16 would have worked for me . On the other hand, who knows how Cardassians age? For all we know, I guess 16 might be the equivalent of something younger. :)

Well, I remember that it was said that he was four at the time of the bombing. I just checked with Memory Alpha and they confirm it.
Born 2358, "orphaned" 2362, taken to Cardassia 2370 - which would make him 12 at that time, not 16.

As that made me curious I just checked the script. Even when he is introduced there he is described as
a straight-faced twelve-year-old Cardassian boy, RUGAL.

It is also mentioned that the adoption was about 8 years ago and as I remembered it is stated that he had just turned 4 when Pa'dar left Bajor, believing Rugal to be dead.

Maybe that's 16 years in Cardassian, or Bajoran? :)

Hmm, as it were Cardassians who gave the two figures (Garak that the adoption must have been 8 years ago and Pa'dar that he was 4 at the time of the bombing) he'd be 12 in Cardassian years. Maybe he's 16 in Bajoran years, though. :cardie:
