Spoilers The NCC-82893 Thread

Two Yamatos appeared in season two, with two different registries. The 1305-E one was created as part of an alien test and had infinite bridges, so it seems like it was an imperfect copy.

The registry was read out loud and no-one seem confused by it. Only confused that it was there in the first place.

RIKER: It's a Federation ship. NCC one three zero five dash E. It's the Yamato, our sister ship.
WESLEY: The Yamato's nowhere near this quadrant.
PICARD: Open a hailing frequency, Data.
DATA: USS Enterprise to USS Yamato. Respond, please. USS Enterprise calling USS Yamato. Respond, please, on this frequency. No response, Captain.

As far as I can tell he was reading both the registry and the name off the hull (even though it was at kind of an impossible angle), so he didn't necessarily recognise the number. Registry numbers are like phone numbers: there are thousands of them and you only need to know the ones you need to know. I bet Data wouldn't even know the Yamato's registry unless he paused for a moment and looked it up in his brain.

Okay sure they should know that theirs is the only ship in the fleet that has a letter suffix, but obvious things fly right over people's heads sometimes! I bet they were all kicking themselves for missing it afterwards. Especially Data, who probably locked himself in his room running self-diagnosis tests until someone convinced him to come out.

Good job. Clearly a ship with 4 nacelles.

It looks different in shape from Star Trek Online's Stargazer-class USS Stargazer (NCC-2893-A), but that ship was launched in 2393. But that can easily be explained with a major refit.

And if not, we can always retcon.

Either way, I am elated to see legacy starships in modern Trek. :bolian:

I'm not sure why we have to retcon anything from STO. Like the novels, STO is a non-canon, separate entity/universe that has zero bearing on the canon TV shows. And what's on screen dictates what happens with the non-canon material, not the other way around.

They may have started another tradition here with the Stargazer's x2983 registry. Someone will have to blow it up for us to find out.

I expect it's one of those informal things that you do when the opportunity arises. For example, I've always thought that if there was a prototype ship launching around the #200 registry, then NX-211 should be the USS Spirit of St Louis.

I recall a Kelvinverse comic coming up with a whole different Enterprise just before the 2258-launched movie version for a Captain April issue.

Some fans dubbed it NCC-701, although it's pure fanon as far as I can tell.

So you've got

NX-01
NCC-701
NCC-1701

To my mind, "NCC-1305-E" was a statement of opinion on Riker's part. One that no one else called Riker on.

Yes, it's a retroactive rationalisation.

"I can't really make out what it says at this angle, but it's something like 'NCC-1705-E'. That's what I think it says anyway. I'm pretty sure it's the Yamato, so we can look up the actual registry later if anyone finds they have any reason to care."

When Riker stated the ship's registry at the time, he was correct. There's no need to rationalize what he said. Just like there's no need to rationalize the "R" on Kirk's tombstone.

One thing was bothering me and I've realised what: Where are the holograms? There's a Disco/Kelvin-style holographic glass screen at one of the bridge consoles, but the floating consoles of S1 are gone. Which is a shame, because they looked really cool in the old 2009 Countdown comic and PIC season one.
