Spoilers The NCC-82893 Thread

F. King Daniel

Fleet Admiral

Could it be that the set photos that showrunner Terry Mathalas has been tweeting are the same 4-nacelled ship spotted on a castmember's chair months ago?

And could it perhaps be a new USS Stargazer, NCC-2893-A?

And and and... I wonder if this means La Sirena won't survive season 2?

My current guess is La Sirena (and crew!) are all about to go down in a blaze of glory when in swoops a new Stargazer or redesigned Enterprise-E captained by some familiar face. Rios' ship is lost, but the third (and potentially final) season has its hero ship.

Having the Stargazer-A appear wouldn't really make any sense. There's no connection to Picard, other than the name in an historical sense. It's like introducing a new character in S3 named Beverly Crusher, who has nothing to do with the woman Picard knows and loves.

I will vouch for the original Stargazer, however. Maybe what we're seeing are flashbacks to (or some Q-driven plotline concerning) an incident that is central to Picard's character development (e.g. Jack Crusher's death). Barring that, it may be some new starship commanded by a legacy character we have yet to see.

My thought is that if the show ends with its third season, the finale's denouement puts Picard back in a Starfleet captain's chair with some of the main cast tagging along in senior staff positions. The Stargazer name reborn for a new century would be a poignant narrative touch, specifically because the first season bothered to bring up the original vessel in a more-than-passing sense.

But it obviously doesn't need to be the Stargazer-A (or whatever) for things to end the way I predict they will. ("You'll need a crew." "I already have one." etc) So, it's hardly a necessity; but I see where folks are coming from.

Adding to this discussion, I know there was speculation a few weeks ago around whether Rios would still be in season three, given that Santiago Cabrera has filmed a guest slot on another show during S3 production. So I'll just add to that by saying that Cabrera posted on Instagram over the weekend and still does not have the Rios beard, he's practically clean-shaven. So he's either still not filming Picard (S3 is still filming, right?), or he's back on set with a new look for Rios. Speculate away!

I am hoping for at least a few episodes with a 1701-D or Stargazer Deepfake crew.

Deepfake techniques have become even easier to implement. Since ST:PIC heavily relies on nostalgia we could possibly get our 179th and 180th TNG episode after all.

BTW, why am i still a Red Shirt? I’ve been on this message board for more than 15 years, yes i don’t do that much and people wouldn’t care if I’d be gone…

alright, i am a Red Shirt…

I have read that Picard may not end with a season 3. It depends on what Patrick Stewart wants.

Yeah, I can't recall if it was during the Star Trek Day celebrations this year or just something along those lines, but it was Kurtzman (I think) who said he'd keep it going for as long as Sir Patrick wants. This, of course, can't truly be his final, final say, since the network would pull the plug if the financial returns became terrible, but it's heartening.

I'm just subscribing to the likelihood of three seasons until further notice so that I don't feel disappointed if Stewart's age catches up with them him afterward and he has to decline more!

It’s always possible that Sir Patrick agrees to do guest appearances or something (in fact, I find this to be rather likely as an option because it would give him the chance to do other work but also return from time to time should his presence be needed). I’m still saying that the show might be called PICARD but it never specifies WHICH Picard it focuses on - they could always have some time travel technobabble and then turn it into a Stargazer show with a younger actor taking over and Sir Patrick just making guest appearances of some kind - I mean there’s a reason why they seem to have picked the Stargazer as a ship to at least appear in season 3.

Even if Sir Patrick said he’s done now I wouldn’t be too sure of it - he’s said that before. Before and after basically each TNG movie. Maaaaaaaany times.

Get Rene from an alternate timeline and have him be the star when The Sir decided he's had enough

Maybe someone has re-built the Stargazer in an attempt to reconnect Picard's Synth Memories with an actual starship.

Picard is a Synth now and is experiencing life as Data did. Not human but striving to be more, human.
Picard explain tactile touch to Data.
