The Narada, revisited

Well, I was digging around in some of my Blender files during my lunch break today, and ran across my old Narada. I was not happy with it, so I thought I would try again, using some of the things I have learned lately.

Here's what I have, after about 2 hours....

I still have to add a bunch of cables and stuff... and I have to figure out how I'm going to finish the back end.

Here's the old one, just for comparison's sake... I built this after the toy prototype images were leaked...

The old version looks like a pine-cone, but the newer version looks more like a venus fly trap, which I think is much better.

Thanks. :) I was definitely using a flower for the structure, on this one.

Here's the last update for the night... I think modeling is almost done. I don't want to junk it up too much, though. :)

and here's a close up one...

and one showing the whole thing...

It should be easy to texture this one, too.

Nom nom nom nom nom! Me eat BAD Vulcan! Me eat BAD planet! Me eat BAD Krirk!

Great modeling work of course, but I just think this ship is a silly design. Space going octopus anyone? Maybe there will be a cameo by Captain Nemo and the U.S.S Nautilus in the movie? Either that or John Sheridan will show up in a Whitestar and demand that they "Get the hell out of our galaxy!"

Wow...I haven't looked at the screen caps that closely, but it looks like you've found the "base shape" of the design, underneath all the complexity...does that make sense?
Anyway, that close up render REALLY has the same feel/look as the movie stills...can't wait to see that textured and rendered.

If I was directing a Star Trek movie, the design behind the Narada would be my re-imagined Doomsday Machine.

P.S. The Narada went from a mining vessel to what it is now thanks to the Romulan Nostromo and it's alien looking borg technology. :D

Looking forward to seeing this in action!

That's really what I am trying to keep in mind. It doesn't need any recognizable parts, because it's totally alien.

Well, I looked at some more of the pics from the comic, and I make some changes. I decided to get rid of some of the "tendrils", and it only has 3 "fat" arms, like in the picture, as well as more of the stubby ones.

I'll texture it for real, tomorrow. :)

Nostromo? Who's that? Have we heard of him before this movie?

Hehe. Ever see the 1979 movie ALIEN? The Nostromo was the name of the space tug vehicle that was the primary setting for the movie.

In the Star Trek prequel comic Countdown volume 3, the Narada visits a secret Romulan base called the Vault which bears a striking resemblance to the Nostromo from ALIEN, right down to the angled propulsion vents. The interior of the Vault also has some H.R. Giger going on with the walls and when Nero is introduced to the Borg technology that will be used to upgrade his ship, it room resembles the landing leg room where Brett was killed by the Alien. It has chains, alien looking tails and something on the ceiling with if looked from a distance looks strikingly like an alien hanging from the ceiling.

Well, I textured it, and added some lights. :)

It's now got most of the elements of the comic book images, even if they aren't all the right shape, or in the right place. :) It changes shape, anyway, right?

:)

Edit.... Does this remind anyone of V'GER?

No I don't see any V'GER resemblance, but what I do see in this picture ^ is a very ''STRONG'' resemblance to the ''SHADOW'' fighter from BABYLON 5!
