The Muppets (2011)

Just got back from it. In short, the movie is pure joy. It's the Muppets, through and through. I had a huge smile on my face the whole entire time. I'll also admit that when they started singing Rainbow Connection, I teared up a bit. This is what family entertainment should be all about, not stupid garbage like Alvin and the Chipmunks (saw the trailer beforehand. It looks dreadful.) For a couple of hours tonight, I wasn't a jaded, cynical adult. I was a little kid, having a grand old time with Kermit, and Piggy, and Fozzy, and Gonzo, and all of those characters that I grew up loving.

That Toy Story short beforehand was a hoot as well. Almost made me worried that the film couldn't live up to it. Happily that's not the case. I'm still so happy after leaving the theater. I'm still smiling about this movie. Rest any fears you may have, and go see The Muppets.
 
^^^ That is so great to hear OdoWan. We're taking the kids on Saturday, and we've been prepping them with the DVDs of the old series and the first Muppet movie for about a month now. I still think I'm more excited than my kids.
 
Just got back from it and I really enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun and Segal definitely did right by this series, returning it to its old form. He was good, Amy Adama was better and beautiful but things really get going once the Muppets are brought back. I've always been a fan of The Muppets...the first film I ever saw in the movie theaters was The Muppets Take Manhatten.

I was impressed with the Walter. It's not easy to introduce a new Muppet but he's a fully realized character and a wonderful addition to the franchise.

Fun celebrity cameos, particularly Jim Parsons. I thought the film dragged on a little long but otherwise, I was very happy with it.
It had a lot of heart and you still care about The Muppets after all these years.

Kermit getting Rowlf back was pretty funny.

Loved the Toy Story short.

Just saw it. I have a condition that South Park would call "being a cynical asshole" but this made me feel like I was 10 years old again. It's just awesome. The songs are great and it's genuinely hilarious. It's been a long time since I saw a movie that made me laugh this much. Kermit's line "Okay, Jack Black's got nothing" just freaking slayed me. In context it's killer, trust me.

Basically, it's 2 hours of pure joy.
 
Saw it last night. Loved it. Enjoyed the daughter's enjoyment almost as much. She's 28 and was a bit put upon because the audience had a large number of kids...said we should have gone to a later show. But she never stopped smiling, laughing, boping and grining. Neither did I. Great fun.
 
I'm so glad to hear that this is a movie my nieces and I can enjoy together. I remember growing up with the Muppets and I'm glad that Disney found their soul again.

Yeah, the good reviews are encouraging. We'll be going to see it on Saturday. I can't wait!
 
Just got back from it myself. I haven't watched any sort of Muppet movie in close to 10 years, but I remembered liking them which is why I went out tonight. I was stunned at how much I enjoyed it. It was a fun, hilarious little movie. The self-reference and "breaking the fourth wall" humor killed me. It's definitely a movie that I wouldn't need an excuse to go see it a second time. Just an absolute joy to watch.

I just looked up my local cinema here in Blighty and it's saying the same which is taking the piss just a bit and I bet it won't do to well over here as the DVD/BD would likely be out across the pond by then.

Don't the studios get that in this day and age you can't pull that kind of crap without loosing quite a lot of cash?!
 
I enjoyed the hell out of it. Plus, it was nice to see everyone else filing out of the theatre with a big grin on their face too.
 
Ironically, this was Jack Black's best live action role in a long time.

Liked it a lot. Did a good job of incorporating irony without being really cynical (everything to do with "Smalltown, USA" and Gary and Mary's characters). They also made good use of the "save the rec centre!" plot by not playing it too seriously (or, really, anything too seriously; the plot is mainly just an excuse to have a movie, which can often be really indulgent, but it works here).

My favourite cameo joke was Neil Patrick Harris telling the woman on the phone that he wasn't sure why he wasn't hosting.
 
Enjoyed it overall... but I wasn't quite as blown away as I was hoping. For a big, modern day reintroduction of the Muppets, it seemed awfully limited in scope (especially compared to the first movie's epic road trip). I was hoping to see more adventures out in the real world, instead of in just a bunch of different interiors.

And while the storyline with Segal and his muppet brother had it's moments, I couldn't help but wish more of that time had been devoted to the actual Muppets and their lives. Except for Kermit, Piggy, and Fozzie, most of them seemed to be used just for quick punchlines.
 
I thought it was awesome. I saw it yesterday with my mom and younger sister (who is 23). My mom loved it. I loved it. My sister loved it. And the 8,000 or so little kids in the theater seemed to love it as well. There was such a huge variety of people in the theater, and I think everybody had a good time.

After we left, my sister asked me, "Did I hear you sniffling during the movie?" And the answer was yes. It definitely hit all the right notes.
 
I loved it!

I could have done with fewer pop songs and more Muppet songs (as much as I enjoy Starship) but I did enjoy the new songs they gave us (and I became genuinely misty-eyed during Pictures in my head).

Also, both 80's Robot and Walter will be solid additions to the Muppet gang... but I missed Rizzo!

Oh, and I loved Steve Whitmire as Kermit. The voices still don't sound quite right to me... but I think I'm beginning to let go of the original performers and to accept the new guys as the Muppets.

I agree with this fully.

I saw this interview of Kermit and Piggy by a six year old, and was impressed by how well Whitmire inhabits the character.
