First Contact...

Rambo Picard and zombies, enough said.

you can make a lot of movies sound bad by giving silly, one line descriptions.

TVH: Humpback whales and a floating tin can. Enough said.

TWOK: ear slugs and Kirk's son. Enough said.

Etc.

The One with the Whales here too. But it could've been even more hyped and overrated. It could've been a vehicle for Eddie Murphy...

The single, most overrated ST movie for me is Star Trek IV The Voyage Home. I've given it chance after chance but it still fails to really impress me.

One vote for TMP - at least amongst fans. Critically only TWOK is rated in any way shape or form whatsoever.

I voted the same, and mostly agree. Concerning movies that are critically rated, I'd argue that Star Trek: First Contact was rather well received among critics when it was released, although it doesn't seem to have had the lasting power of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan in critical memory.

What those two movies have in common and share with "The Voyage Home" is that they're entertaining and watchable for people who don't give a crap about Star Trek - IOW, they're decent movies, period.

That can't be said for most other Trek movies prior to the Abrams reboot.

The Voyage Home. Sure, it's a fun lighthearted movie and some of the humour works but a couple of chuckles here and there don't make up for probably the most stupid plots seen in all Trek. The whole premise of a probe that speaks to fully sentient humpback whales and was presumably sent by other whales (but not humpack since Spock says they only exist on Earth) or some whale-loving alien species makes me want to drown puppies in a giant whale tank.

Then you tack on that it literally siphons all energy and life from everything in its way and the planet itself until it gets an answer from said whales to what must've been a pre-encoded question and I consider replacing the giant whale tank with a giant blender.

Voyage Home is one of those films that was really fun when it came out, but now I find several other films better in terms of re-watching them (Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock, Undiscovered Country).

First Contact by a wide margin for me. It's a tolerable action flick with very little to resemble TNG in most places. The Borg Queen makes no sense at all, and I never really got into the whole "The Picard and Data Show" aspects of the TNG movies.

I would say TVH. It always strikes me as a ham and cheese fest, what with the bad humour.
Seconded. I don't like TVH and I don't get why it's so popular. It's just a silly 80s comedy, and not one of the better ones. And the SAVE THE WHALES message couldn't be more hamfisted.

There is an inverse proportion between Trek success and the creative involvement of Stewart and Spiner in the writing process of TNG films.

I think it's the humor that most people like. i've never really heard much praise for the plot or the message. Mainly it's the humor and character interacts that's cited.

the humor is great, and it's so off-beat and different from anything Trek had done since "piece of the action" or "trouble with tribbles." It was also a nice break from the somber tones of TWOK and TSFS.
