I recently started a thread for the most underrated episodes of TNG. I thought it might be interesting to start a thread for the most overrated episodes of TNG. Here are what I consider to be the most overrated episodes:
The Best of Both Worlds: Part 1 was very enjoyable, but Part 2 was rather dull. Once Picard was rescued I felt like all of the tension evaporated. At that point I no longer had any reason to care, so the rest of the episode was really uninteresting.
Yesterday's Enterprise: It's a fine episode, but is it really one of the best Trek episodes of all time? I never cared much about Tasha in the first place, so why should I care about her now? I know the ending with Tasha and her boyfriend going to their doom was supposed to be tragic, but I didn't feel anything.
Relics: This one takes the cake for MOST overrated episode of all time. I honestly believe that the only reason people gush over this episode is because it features Scotty and the bridge of the original Enterprise. Scotty's reason for being there and being alive is waay to coincidental, and the actual storyline for this episode is nothing special. So, Scotty feels out of place in the future? Whoopdee do. It's not that I don't like this episode, I just don't think it deserves to be ranked in the top 10% of all episodes (or, for that matter, not even in the top 50%). I should also mention that I'm not a TOS fan, so seeing Scotty in TNG does not make me feel sentimental. But, even if I was, that still wouldn't make up for the weak storyline.
Anyway, that's what I have to say about those episodes.
