The Most Overrated Episodes

I recently started a thread for the most underrated episodes of TNG. I thought it might be interesting to start a thread for the most overrated episodes of TNG. Here are what I consider to be the most overrated episodes:

The Best of Both Worlds: Part 1 was very enjoyable, but Part 2 was rather dull. Once Picard was rescued I felt like all of the tension evaporated. At that point I no longer had any reason to care, so the rest of the episode was really uninteresting.

Yesterday's Enterprise: It's a fine episode, but is it really one of the best Trek episodes of all time? I never cared much about Tasha in the first place, so why should I care about her now? I know the ending with Tasha and her boyfriend going to their doom was supposed to be tragic, but I didn't feel anything.

Relics: This one takes the cake for MOST overrated episode of all time. I honestly believe that the only reason people gush over this episode is because it features Scotty and the bridge of the original Enterprise. Scotty's reason for being there and being alive is waay to coincidental, and the actual storyline for this episode is nothing special. So, Scotty feels out of place in the future? Whoopdee do. It's not that I don't like this episode, I just don't think it deserves to be ranked in the top 10% of all episodes (or, for that matter, not even in the top 50%). I should also mention that I'm not a TOS fan, so seeing Scotty in TNG does not make me feel sentimental. But, even if I was, that still wouldn't make up for the weak storyline.

Anyway, that's what I have to say about those episodes.

What do you consider to be the most overrated episodes of TNG?

I'm gonna say Chains of Command, but I'm sure it's a good episode in a way that i don't get. That Captain Jelly or whatever his name was . . . I was waiting for him to get some payback at the end but it never came.

Agreed with Relics. Nice to see Scotty and not a bad episode at all, but hardly the top 5 so many make it out to be.

Another vote for "relics." If it didn't have Doohan, it wouldn't be so highly rated.

"the offspring" -too soap opera-esque and predictable

"all good things"-heavy on technobabble, a return to a Q theme that had been gone for seven years, a HIGHLY contrived resolution especially in the "Encounter" timeline.

not terrible of course, just kind of meh.

And yet folks talk about it like it's on par with "BOBW."

I, Borg - The weapon didn't need to work but they needed to show that Picard had the balls to use it.

Inner Light - Forty minutes of me watching Picard watch a movie. Zzzzzzzzz... Voyager did the same concept much better in the episode Memorial.

I love me some Dyson Sphere!

RAMA

The Inner Light - yes, it tells a beautiful story, but I always feel like I'm watching Picard watch TV.

Probably "The Inner Light" and "Yesterday's Enterprise." They're both good episodes, but to say they're far and away better than most of the series is a little much, I think.

The ones that everyone likes.

The episode where Riker gets bitten by a plant and turns into a clip show, and the one where Dr. Crusher falls in love with a space candle are the best episodes.

The rest are shite.

Six people think that the Inner Light is overrated!? While I am rarely one to agree with the consensus, I do consider the Inner Light to be one of the most profound Star Trek episodes of all time. Next to Tapestry, it's my favorite episode of TNG.
Nevertheless, you are all entitled to your opinion, even if I disagree.
Keep the overrated episodes coming.

I also don't understand the supposed lack of greatness of "The Inner Light". Among the many popular epic action or ethical dilemma episodes a simple, beautiful and sublime story shines out.

Don't forget insanely dull. Like I said before, Voyager took the same concept and knocked it out of the park and I'm not a Voyager fan.

Yes, it is dull, dry and TNG-style sterile, not worth to be seen more than twice and without the music and Stewart it would only work on a conceptual level. Yes, "Memorial" is more emotional, dynamic and more important ... yet The Inner Light shines brighter because it is quiet and fragile.
And because Picard's flute gets some action in the next season. :D
By the way, strangely enough Kirk was more disciplined concerning fraternization than Picard.

Problem is that even by TNG standards it dull, dry and sterile. The last time I watched it my wife was asleep halfway through and she likes TNG... it's the Trek she grew up with. She made me promise to never watch it in her presence again.

The Inner light had everything; a fascinating sci fi concept (living 40 years within the span of 25 minutes), plenty of drama, lots of character development for Picard, arguably Stewart's best performance on TNG, a beautiful soundtrack, and on top of all that........................this episode made me cry. :(
