Welcome to our bi-yearly 'Most Disliked Episode' games! Now that the 'Least Disliked Episode' games hosted by BlueStuff (who inspired me to create these games, so thank you very much for paving the way) have concluded, we can begin the opposite side of that coin. This game is for the movies! Because there are only 14 movies, we are going to play this as if it was a Finals game from a series.

Give what you consider to be the best/your most favorite movie ONE point, and briefly explain WHY. Be sure to copy and paste the list with your point added. When a movie reaches 4 points, it is eliminated. Then a NEW round begins (in this thread) with the numbers restored to 0. Vote ONCE per round. My first vote goes to STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN.

Probably the easiest vote I've ever done, this movie truly is the gold standard for the franchise. It has everything... a great villain, great plot, great action, great emotion.

Spock's death scene never fails to make me shed a few single man tears. Also has one of my favorite quotes ever. (Holds even greater meaning as I've gotten older.)

"He's not really dead. As long as we remember him."

My vote goes to STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE. The underdog, I know.

I truly think it is a great film. It is just about the only film in the series that has a sense of awe and wonder and mystery and a sense of exploration (even if they are thrust into this exploration because of a threat). Despite popular perception, I think it harkens back to some of the best of the original series, and I also think it has some great character development, particularly among Kirk, Spock, and McCoy.

STAR TREK III: THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK is my favourite ST film for so many reasons, but the main one is that the Enterprise crew actually feel like a family in this outing - and they all have something critical to do.
It also features my favourite Saavik!

My favourite film has an old girlfriend, and even a son.for Kirk, showing that even our heroes get old.

And of course, Spock'S death is the bittersweet tragedy that still gets me.

I wish I could line up behind any of these, but I gotta go with Undiscovered Country. The movie that ignited my Star Trek fandom! Well, semi-indirectly. I liked TUC so much my parents suggested I watch TNG, and that's when it really blew up.

By every measure, TWOK is the best Trek film, even though it's the obvious choice and I'd love to throw a "contrarian" vote out there. The character development, the emotional punch, a great thriller/revenge plot coupled with a very Trekkian sci-fi/moral dilemma concept, and still the best space battle scenes in the franchise.

I don't want to disrupt the thread with too much conversation, but I just want to say how refreshing it is to see TMP keeping up with TWOK in the voting. Those are, definitely, my two favorite Trek films. It's like Alien and Aliens to me. So completely different from one another, yet I love them both in their universe. Same with TMP and TWOK.

I'm very happy TMP is getting so much love, too. It's well deserved and I think overdue. Much better film than many give it credit for. I hope it gets a 50th anniversary theater release so I can see it on the big screen.


(I'm with you on ALIEN and ALIENS. Both are the very best in that franchise. Excellent scifi horror and excellent scifi action.)
