Game The Most Disliked Fifth Season Episode, 2025 Edition

Saving STAR TREK: KLIMGON... I mean, "SOLDIERS OF THE EMPIRE".

Just an excellent episode. We get a crew of different types of Klingons, and more importantly, ones who have lost their confidence and fight.

Also a great story for Martok and Worf, who helps Martok get his groove back.

I love the ending... Worf joining as a warrior and a brother in Martok's house. I have shed a single man tear or two in recent years over this.

"Face The Strange" was a fantastically good Discovery episode. Those two Burnham's vs each other, so good.

Also, it's review of Disco's full history could not be more perfectly suited to a final season. It's strange how almost all of season 5 feels like it was made to end the series, given that they say they had no idea it would be the last year.

I just counted how many of these I like enough that they could potentially be my next save. And I came up with 35! These really are some good seasons.

Well, I watched some Voyager episodes today, so I'll just go with one of the Voyager ones. I have always had a soft spot for "Juggurnaut." That's just a trope I love, the ghost ship falling apart as a small team on it works to save themselves.

And it's the best use of the Malon, a Voyager adversary I've always liked.

There are a lot of things that I like about "The First Duty". Although I m not interested in an Academy series, I do like the glimpses we get of it here. Boothby is both a nice character and a rare sighting of an "ordinary" Federation citizen. Sito is another nice character and Locarno so good he turns up again after changing his name... A solid Trek moral too.

~ Ha ha! I was just thinking the same thing. Fortunately I've been spared some dithering over what to save first as so many excellent episodes have already gone.

Despite what I just said there was a bit of dithering, but in the end LDS: "A Farewell To Farms" is my first save in this game. I wasn't overly thrilled when I discovered that LDS was doing a Klingon episode as I'm not a big fan of all that belligerant (and sometimes hypocritical) honorable warrior stuff, but as always, LDS knocked it out of the park with a look at the Klingon culture from a different angle.
Plus, Malor is adorable and Ma'ah is hot! :adore: :klingon: :drool:

A diamond in the rough and IMHO the best on the list (even though a couple robust ones exist, with one other that was on it and was yoinked while I wrote this, hehe), this eppy is inspired from "I, Borg" in a way, yet goes in completely fresh and new-feeling directions via The Drone Of Tomorrow. But I also prefer "Starship Down" over "Disaster" and by a large distance as well, so there's that...

A largely solid episode, one of season 5's best, but the lack of appropriate incidental music really drags it down in some key scenes. Imagine if Ron Jones did it, or if the composer slated for this episode was allowed to use carte blanche as TNG largely had the same composers throughout its seven-year run and they all did marvelous and their best work prior to the left-turn that season 5 brought to the show. (True, the tonal quality was likely changed to "reflect the 24th century" but it somehow just doesn't fit. IMHO, but it was an interesting experiment if nothing else. )
 
Still so many good ones. I'll next save "Of Gods And Angles."

I love the TOS god tie-in. That whole conflict between cubes and spheres is hilarious and brilliantly Trekian. Great character piece for Mariner.

The original concept for Star trek VI (1991) would be Kirk and the gang meeting at Starfleet Academy. Somehow, I don't think it would have worked quite as well as what we did get.

I also suspect that any Federation Academy series made now would make the 1984 cult classic "Police Academy" seem like a serious drama by comparison.

As much as it wasn't a "need" at the time, "The First Duty" does make terrific use of the Academy, with Wesley as a focal point and because he made a boom-boom.

Very true on the name change; I recall reading somewhere the goal was to have Lorcano return (gotta have them crossovers!), but for clearances or whatever, that fell through so we had another antsy teen now named Tom Paris. Worked out for the best, though.
