The Most Disliked Episode of DS9 - Season 3...

I have a great fondness for Visionary. Torture O'Brien episodes were usually compelling, and this one is par for the course. I enjoyed the use of Romulans, and time travel of just a few hours each time was different too.

THE SEARCH, PART II
MERIDIAN
LIFE SUPPORT
HEART OF STONE
PROPHET MOTIVE
DISTANT VOICES
THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS
FAMILY BUSINESS
SHAKAAR
FACETS

THE SEARCH, PART II

Normally, I'm not a huge fan of, "All this really dramatic stuff happens, and someone dies, and oh, hey, it was all an illusion/dream/what have you," but I felt like we learned enough genuine information about Odo's origins, the Founders and their capabilities, as well as their motives to make the fake-out worthwhile. It was also creepy, and I believe it set the foundations for a lot of what came afterward. In that respect, it reminds me a little of some of the earlier B5 episodes. You don't know the full significance of some of what you hear until later. It's only on a rewatch that you go, "Oh, yeah! That's what that was all about!"

Removing Distant Voices

An average episode overall. It has some logical issues and retroactively makes no sense after Bashir is outed as an augment. But it’s interesting and fun to watch, whereas all but one of the other remaining episodes are dull.

I liked that one as a WTF episode. That moment when Quark and O'brien see O'brien's double on the Promenade was pretty WTF!

THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS was the last good Mirror episode. It was fun and it reunited Sisko and Jennifer in a very interesting twist. It didn't have the same power as CROSSOVER or MIRROR, MIRROR because the science-fiction aspect of switching into parallel dimensions was taken for granted. It became too easy.

LIFE SUPPORT
HEART OF STONE
PROPHET MOTIVE

I'm a fan of "Facets", especially for the Nog subplot. It's perfect how genuinely Quark believes he is helping, and Rom probably has his best scene of the series when he discovers what Quark has done and confronts him in the hallway.

MERIDIAN
LIFE SUPPORT
HEART OF STONE
PROPHET MOTIVE
FAMILY BUSINESS
SHAKAAR

I'm saving "HEART OF STONE" for Nog's story. Nog really started a major arc here and it was THE turning point for his character. His scene with Sisko explaining why he wants to join Starfleet was one of his finest scenes in the series.

MERIDIAN
LIFE SUPPORT
PROPHET MOTIVE
FAMILY BUSINESS
SHAKAAR

Poor Vedek Bareil. I like his 'final' appearance in Life Support, as he goes out in a dignified way, serving Winn's self-serving needs the best he can. It's a shame it was married to the lighthearted Jake/Nog B story though.

PROPHET MOTIVE
FAMILY BUSINESS

I always liked that episode. My wife actually noticed something that I never did in almost 25 years of viewing.

In Bareil's final scene with Kira talking to him in his near death state, the angle of the shot makes it seems like Bareil has a Pope's hat on his head, signifying his sainthood.

Given all he has done for his people and how strong his faith seemed to be, his name should be very well remembered by the Bajorans for centuries.

Given how I am not religious by any means, I see why I never saw that in all the years of repeated viewing. One of the reasons why I love rewatching DS9 with her.

I had a similar reaction to The Quickening when I did my big rewatch. I was noticing all of the religious motifs in the episode and thought it was staged beautifully. I always liked it but I was moved to tears, which DS9 has done to me before. Just not that episode IIRC.

I am taking out "SHAKAAR" as an episode that holds well together, more than the ones left.

MERIDIAN
PROPHET MOTIVE
FAMILY BUSINESS

I'll save "Family Business", I think they really succeeded in their "Ferengi Long Day's Journey Into Night" goal here. They manage to strike the right balance between Ferengi Comedy and Ferengi Emotional Drama.

PROPHET MOTIVE

I vote for Meridian as the loser then. It has a humourous B-plot which slightly redeems it, but the romance of the week with no chemistry in the slightest is too much. As is Jadzia's blissful detachment to what will happen to the symbiant when they disappear.

Prophet Motive is average fair, and slightly more humours overall. Rom as Gint is a hoot as well.

Rom as Gint is "Body Parts." :bolian: Though of course I can't think of a better "winner" for the season than "Meridian", such a terrible ep. Beyond Jeffrey Combs first Trek guest spot, I find nothing to enjoy.

I do love how "Prophet Motive" repeats the "Rules Of Acquisition" trick of using the Ferengi to (re)introduce a major element to the series, being the first time we see the Prophets since the pilot.

Oops. It seems all the Ferengi episodes blur into one. ;)

Meridian is still bad either way.

I am not surprised by the 'winner' of season 3. It is "MERIDIAN".

Interesting fact... the last time this game was played, the winner and runner up for season 3 ended up EXACTLY the same.

I have already started season 4. Thank you all for playing.
