I am going to save TNG's iconic two- parter which comes in at #18: Chain of Command, Pts I & II from Season 6. We get the fabulous interplay between Picard and his Cardassian interrogator Gul Madred (played by David Warner), as he tries to break Picard.

We get Picard's classic resistence "There are four lights!" And his chilling admission later that even though he knew there were only four, he could see five.

I'm saving Enterprise's “In A Mirror, Darkly” from down near the bottom of the list. It's a highlight of one the series' best seasons that gave the writer, the cast and the set builders a chance to go a bit nuts. The characters are so busy stabbing each other in the back and torturing each other that it's a wonder they found any time to steal a meticulously reconstructed Constitution class ship and fight a Gorn!

"OUR MAN BASHIR" is saved. 87th? I think the concept alone warrants a higher rank. Bashir playing in a James Bond homage, with a 'holodeck gone wrong' story where it actually is NOT going wrong, with a spotlight on Garak, too?

Possibly my most rewatched episode in the franchise.

Saving "CALL TO ARMS".

The best season finale of DS9, easily matches TNG's "The Best of Both Worlds". And I might be in the minority, but I think it surpasses TNG's, too.

Not only did it move a LOT of pieces on the chessboard, but every character, lead and nearly all recurring, got moments to shine. It was tense. The dialogue was great. And it had the best station attack sequence the show ever did... and I think it was the last major battle that used stop motion. What a way to end that legacy!

And that final moment with the Defiant meeting the fleet? My jaw dropped when it aired, and I was just cheering for them to kick the Dominion's ass. That summer was torture, waiting for DS9 to return.

is yanked from the honor of being "most disliked of the top-100 list". While it does beg certain questions and I'll save those for the next paragraph, there's a certain style and... charm?... that elevate this. It's nice to see Ian Wolfe back in Trek again and while he's great in both roles, he's more fun in a "villain who really isn't and in a unique way" role. The concept of "processing" to prevent them from returning adds a nice bit of psychological horror, as weaved in various dialogue snippets throughout the episode. Also, yeah, it's fun to see Spock question himself about eating meat and wanting to get it on with Zarabeth... at least McCoy's there in case he contracts something, but before I gabblemaunder too much...

Okay, so the biggest questions are two: 1. How come Spock devolves, but not for neither Kirk nor McCoy and the script doesn't explain it? From the audience's POV, it's taking a bit of stretching and mental gymnastics (while wearing the sort of tight spandex outfits that would make even the late-80s styles blush in embarrassment) so I'll peg it down to yet another thing about exotic about Vulcan brain functions. The script could have been honed just a little in that area. The other is even more fun - I'm sure the people who went back in time were all and noble, but does the "processing" that keeps their bodies from returning without dying horrifically (never mind they'd be roasted like a big bag of marshmallows once the star novas just a few minutes later, though they don't know at what point in time they'd return anyway - hopefully not at the time the Atavachron was used to send Zarabeth into exile!!), does the processing affect their brains to make them fit in with the locals just as well? (Which reminds, the witchcraft era Kirk was plopped into was effective, and when I first saw the story I thought the adjudicator guy Kirk was talking to who'd adored this particular time period for some reason was played by Alan Hale Jr... man, if there was one story that deserved more expounding on various characters, I cannot help but feel curious over why someone would want to live in a time period where - the moment anyone says or does something vaguely different and they'd be exterminated for "practicing witchcraft"! )

But the story was so enjoyable it's worth trying to take the time to tinker with the nitpicks. No question it's duly appointed to the list of the top-100.

I almost yanked it out of its dimension yesterday. It's a fantastic slice of sci-fi that clearly knows how to build up tension in a refreshing way as the episode rolls along.

I remember it won an award for the f/x, which are stellar across the board - no pun intended. The "dissolving" desk, the Tholian creature design (minimal in showing the neck and head only, but highly effective - and with great use of color), the web itself...

I like how the episode brings up what's true for more products that we might remember at any given time than we might recall - an ingredient that's potentially toxic in one large quantity can be benign if not a mere catalyst for a benign effect in smaller ones. Unfortunately, Scotty then wants to take a quart of the stuff and down it all :brickwall: (and proves not all his scenes compelled people to become engineers in real life as a result, but does prove more than one TOS episode has him engaging in a Scottish stereotype - yay? Granted, it's the 1960s and all, and I'm known for moaning a lot but that's not the one I'm moaning on about right now... )

There were a couple plot conveniences, especially toward the end, but they're easily overlooked. Of course the captain would come back.
