While I'm certain that, objectively, there are better episodes, I'm saving "The Drumhead" - A "simple" investigation that turns into a really quite frightening witch hunt. I love how the rather twee and cordial beginnings slowly become eroded by conspiracy and mistrust. Worf siding with Satie, poor Simon Tarses' squirming under the spotlight (amazing performance by Spencer Garrett), Picard being Picard - it's all fantastic right up until Satie's bonkers, overacted breakdown (although, I love her taste in flamboyantly collared frocks!).

I wrote a post saving "Q Who" -- and then fell asleep before hitting post. So now I'll instead save #40 "What You Leave Behind", my favorite Trek series finale. Fire caves issues aside, I have no complaints. The crew splitting up and heading off to their own new futures was so well done and moving.

Here we see the personal destruction over Harry Kim. That opening scene where we see Voyager in the ice, broke my heart. Seeing the crew dead almost made me cry! Watching the Doctor with Sevens skull sent shivers down my spine! The ending which saw Harry finally realise he could save their lives is a real tribute to the dedication and love for the crew Harry had. The personal message at the end was a nice touch too, so for me it's saved

This episode really puts a spin on things; an alien virus thing is contracted then spread around the ship and crewmembers start revealing subdued or repressed thoughts. and, no, it's not a drunken frat party like a certain 1987 sequel whose name shall not be spoken, unless it's about Geordi with his vision or Yar escaping pure hell as "The Naked Now" is not without a modicum of redeeming moments, but the original did it the best. Even with Riley being a little over the top - I mean, I'm part Irish and I'm not singing about Kathleen over a mass communication intercom system. Okay, I'm more inclined to sing about Kyle but that's another tale entirely... Or maybe both-- wait, what were we talking about again? Oh yes, the greatest guest stars in Trek. Did you know Mick Fleetwood opted to shave his decades' old beard just to be... ultimately covered up in a mask? But that's another story too.

This is possibly one of the most poignant scenes in TOS, and Kirk doesn't even say it:

Sulu gets some robust character development as well his chesty bits being taped and powdered the same tone as his skin because those things were bad in 1966* - botany and fencing are introduced. I know, objectively, that there are better offerings on this list, but I've just realized that, for my last few votes, I've been afraid that someone else would save "In a Mirror, Darkly" before I do! So I'm saving it. It's a brilliantly-done prequel to "Mirror, Mirror," complete with scenery-chewing bad guys (most everyone!); a grand nostalgia tour, in the form of the Constitution-class Defiant; and an ending plot twist that completely caught me looking. Though, honestly, I might have saved it just for the new opening credits! New credits for two episodes -- now that's dedication! And they were so well done.

I am next going to save one from near the bottom... #89 "Skin Of Evil." I know the consensus on this ep isn't the greatest, so I was happy to see it on this list, as it's an ep I've always found quite meaningful. It was key in helping me learn how to process death as a child, I saw it for the first time right after someone I knew had died.

Apart from that, I have always seen the dramatic merit of this death for Tasha. These days, every show is constantly killing characters just to prove they can, so as a plot device it's become quite hollow. Back in TNG days, it really was something to just kill a regular mid-season, pointlessly, at the beginning of the episode -- it plays into none of the "departing series regular" tropes of the time.

And I think it provides real stakes that underpin the rest of the series. Tasha wasn't brought up constantly, but she was brought up, and every time it's so impactful and meaningful. It really created the impression that every other character was permanently haunted by Tasha's death, even though we only occasionally see the evidence of that.

AND I also just like this episode. I think the story unfolds well and it's a strong showcase for Troi. The Armus design creeps me out, because of and not in spite of it's low-tech-ness.

I'm going to eliminate Mortal Coil next. Probably my favorite Neelix episode. Not that there are that many of those. Ethan Phillips is a great actor, and episodes like this showcase that the Voyager showrunners wasted his talent casting him as the clown of the series when his real strength was the rare episodes (like this one and Jetrel) where he could bring in the pathos. Also, it's one of those rare Trek episodes which takes a genuine, hard--edged look at mortality. Surprising it was done here and not across the studio at DS9 instead.

Also, somehow Let That Be Your Last Battlefield got dropped off the list. I'm re-adding it. IMHO it's one of the most overrated episodes in all of Trek history, in that aside from the over-the-top racism allegory (which may have been a bit "edgy" at the time) it basically has nothing going for it. I'm rooting for it to "win."

I'm at the bottom again to save #96: "Borderland"/"Cold Station 12"/"The Augments." I just watched these episodes again earlier this week, they really hold up -- except for the ridiculous costumes, which I must now mock. So the contention is that these super-powered super-geniuses have also had to spend the last 10 years wearing the one outfit they were abandoned in, which was child-sized at the time of abandonment, as they were children, and now that they have grown into sexy 20-something LA actors, the one child outfit they've been wearing for a decade has become a sexily SKINTIGHT adult outfit filling with exposing holes pulled taut in seductive peekaboo patterns? All right, settle down, whoever pitched that concept.

Though, I guess I do always say Enterprise's one clear superiority to other Trek was in knowing how to sexually exploit both men AND women in a way that actually felt (almost) equal, thus at last rendering it unobjectionable (or at least, significantly less objectionable than in the rest of Berman Trek). So I guess this wardrobe is of-a-piece with that. I'll allow it.

Also, I like the story, the pacing is well-done, the universe feels big and lived-in, Brent Spiner is great, some of those Augments guest stars are just OK but they'll do, the fight choreography is hilariously big in a good way, J.G. Hertzler as a Klingon for 2 seconds but I'll take it, and that scene work with T'Pol and the terrified newbie ensign in the Orion slave market -- SO GOOD. Those T'Pol/Ensign moments take up very little screentime, but they are among the most memorable content Enterprise ever produced for me. So much world-building happens there quickly, just through that guy and who he is, worshipful hero of the Enterprise exploits who was moved to idealistically enlist post-Xindi and immediately got abducted into slavery.

Think of how many BAD attempts we have seen in Trek over the years to make the red-shirts feel like actual humans in just a few lines. Pretty much never works! Usually fails painfully! Not here. (It helps that they also don't kill him, so you don't feel as cynically manipulated by the exercise. Wish they'd brought him back!)

I am picking 61 Take Me Out to the Holosuite. I love Baseball and loved watching the humor and seeing them playing it and also I liked that Sisko had this kind of petty school rival, his Fiinegan you could say. I like the story he told to Kassidy about how it got started and that whole scene.

So next on my list is "TINKER TENOR DOCTOR SPY".

A great comedic episode, with a cool new villain.

But my favorite scene... the Vulcan aria The Doctor was signing. Pure comedy gold (pressed latinum).

Side note, and total win for me: when I met Robert Picardo at DragonCon years ago, he actually sang that aria with me! Unfortunately, the battery on my camera died just before I got to see him, so I couldn't record it. But that memory stays in my brain, and it's one of my favorites.

TNG was stretching for anything in its final years, having already revamped itself in season 5. "The Pegasus" does the "yes there's a bad admiral out there" before it became popular. There's also phasing cloaks and Romulan guile, which is also why Picard had to put his foot down when finding and using the phasing cloak - which somehow didn't overload this time. But thankfully the Federation invented the wheel (and in Wussia, said Chekov) fuseboxes and circuit breakers, so the unit didn't get destroyed a dozen years earlier.

Riker's newfound past also fits in with his style and deftly blended in at the edges. I'm surprised but in a good way.

And they put money into this one - they would have put in just enough either way, but they knew from the start this one would be a fan favorite so they pulled out all the stops. Having noted "Gambit" and everyone in the room salivating over an upcoming special effect... which turned out to be nothing more than, if memory serves, an incandescent light bulb and momentary pushbutton-style switch being depressed by stagehands to show hot intense action action action.

The pure emotion in this episode just made it for me. Seeing an elderly T'Pol interacting with Archer like her oldest friend really touched me.
