I'm sitting this one out: I haven't seen most of Prodigy, and I last saw TAS in the 70s.

During the first season of Prodigy, I felt there was some confusion as to at which age group the programme was aimed. "Time Amok" starts with a team-building exercise on the holodeck (trying to get a fox, achicken and a sack of grain across a river) and ends with a moral about the need to work together. It could have felt as though the target audience was very young but is saved by the time anomaly, HoloJaneway hopping between time factures and the crew each contributing to saving the ship.

"Grounded" is an exceptional premiere. Note perfect all around. The First Contact tie-in's are extremely clever. Boimler's raisen ranch. The perfect montage at the end of the exciting sequence of events that exonerated Freeman.

My one critique of "First First Contact" is that the cliffhanger puts such a sour note on Freeman's triumph, but they knew exactly how to wrap it all up in "Grounded" and leave you feeling good about the whole story.
