The Mirror War

Most, if not all all comic franchise are guilty of this at some point.

I was reading Superman: Year One, and it had the engine block of a Star Wars Nebulon-B Frigate being using as alien starships. There were also Trade Federation battleships being used as mining vehicles.

Some recent Star Wars comics have been tracing fan art, and I don't mean fan art of already existing Star Wars ships, but fan made designs. I also saw Atlantis from Stargate Atlantis in one issue, kitbashed with a bunch of other designs.

In one of the Kelvin Timeline comics, there were Orion ships that were the Battlestar Galactica with Stargates sticking out of their rear.

Somehow comic book artists managed for decades without doing it. Or ar least were far more subtle about the times they did. Why is it so common now? Tight deadlines plus Google Image Search is preferable to imagination?

On the contrary -- comic book artists have been swiping other artists' work since the very beginnings of comics in the 1930s, tracing character poses, panel compositions, and the like. Artists like Bob Kane, Jack Kirby, and Joe Simon all swiped from the great comic strip artists Alex Raymond (Flash Gordon) and Hal Foster (Prince Valiant) on a regular basis, and swiped from each other as well:

The recently released Die!namite Lives #5 zombie apocalypse crossover comic clearly shows Klingon birds-of-prey on the last page.

It's not exclusive to comics, old Star Trek covers have featured Vipers from Battlestar Galactica and even the Galactica herself.

I might buy this series for the DS9 appearances. Interesting that the alt-Ro Laren is in alt-Sisko's crew!

This current series will cause heartache for casual collectors. It kicked off with an Issue #0 (explaining how Mirror Barclay got back from the last mini-series), which many people seem to have left on the shelves here, and there will be other one-offs related to the main maxi-series. Just announced is "Mirror War - Data" #1, in which the focus is on Mirror Barclay and Mirror Data's relationship.

Issue 3 is out.
Neat detail, the Cardassian listening post is based off concept art for DS9 itself
O'brien has been captured and is now at Terok Nor

So I haven’t read issue 3 yeat, but in the Data one shot, Geordi is said to be in the Delta Quadrant? Did I forget something? How would that even be possible?

I think the one shot is meant to be set later in time during the series, as there are mentions of them having acquired a romulan cloak, which it's not the case up to issue 3 (the cloak thing is even mentioned in that issue), so I guess Mirror Geordi will get off ship soon enough.

Also, not sure if Deanna is saying the Delta Quadrant thing straight or sarcastically.

Nothing in the DS9 episodes said he wasn't a former Starfleet member.

On the contrary -- Smiley's whole personality in "Crossover" precludes it. Smiley in "Crossover" is a timid, broken man with no hope, a man who's never even considered the possibility that he could be anything more than a slave until Bashir convinced him it could.

Moreover, there is no Starfleet anymore in the DS9 Mirror Universe. The Empire was defeated decades ago and whole generations of humans were raised as slaves. IDW's retcon that a sliver of the Empire managed to persist long enough for Picard to command the Stargazer was enough of a stretch already, but if they're now extending that into the TNG era, then that's just not the same Mirror Universe we saw in canon.
