They can barely get their own universe down pat. What makes them think they can introduce a whole other one and hope to get it right?
The concept of an evil twin universe is so simple to understand, there's no doubt they could pull it off if they wished. And what's wrong with the universe they've already established? Seems fine to me.

I agree.

Also, when you think about the fact that the movies are primarily aimed at the general public, the mirror universe is one of the main, iconic tropes that people who know very little about Trek will recognize. That makes it a good box-office draw which, I think, makes it more likely that they will mine it for material.

I'd say no for two reasons:
1: They would have to acknowledge Enterprise's stupidity somehow. It was good when it simply implied that the entire course of human history had been more warlike and cutthroat without having to over-explain things. I think it is a waste of time when they try to explain everything except when and where they became as technologically advanced as they were in the 23rd century, and this was done poorly.

2: What is the point is having the whole future open to redo if you're going to keep recycling old ideas? I like Evil Spock as much as anyone, but we've already seen so many sides of Spock in just two movies that it's time to get plot points from somewhere else.

Star Trek: Michio Kaku Explains the Multiverse?

I don't know. I think using some real science in the science fiction series wouldn't be a bad thing.

Besides, as the video creator said, he was inspired by the usage of the JFK sound bites in the first Trek teaser, and some Eisenhower soundbites that were used in a fan trailer for STID. It actually follows a pretty smart pattern. It's a great way to establish a theme or idea within the context of a trailer.
