The Maple Leaf Lounge

Anyone else trying to keep up with the broad strokes of today's outing of the Ford government corruption in the greenbelt deal while at work?

Alberta's government has always been corrupt. The current gang of sociopaths isn't even trying to hide it anymore. We have no fewer than THREE former justice ministers in hot water with the Law Society, and Shandro at least belongs in jail.

Absolutely not surprised, most people figured this is what was happening, but it's good to have actual evidence, not that anything will come of it.

fuck me.

we'e now getting ads for pierre pissant proclaiming he's the common sense leader Canada needs.

there's nothing commonsense about a man who believes bitcoin will save us and the gave his full support to the freedom convoy types hell bent on overthrowing a democratically elected government.

It was very discouraging hearing earlier this week that the latest polling has the CPC approaching majority territory.

Even without trudeus's fuckups, they most likely would be in similar position simply for the reason that governments get tired and stale.

And the ads don't mention that pissant is a little opportunist - he claimed he didn't want to seek the leadership previously because of family but jumps in when it's a much easier path - just as ford did here.

Good god, I'd never support anyone who thinks there's something to bitcoins or any other crypto currency. They've been known to harm the environment due to the processing power needed, and they're a scam, with several people in the industry having been arrested for fraud. The world will be better off when that trend wears off.

I don't know if anyone here is affected by the evacuations in BC or the Territories, but if so, I hope you and your loved ones are safe.

What an absolutely devastating situation. :(

A friend of mine in the Okanagan has been evacuated. Helicopters have been dumping water around his house to help protect it.

I know it's not high on the list of importance, but I was on a trip to the U.S this past week, and on our route is an American Tim Hortons. I'd been there before on previous trips, but I had seen a video recently comparing US and Canadian Tim Hortons and they'd said the American version of the Original roast was better than the Canadian, and I had to try it to see for myself. Sure enough, it really is. They must have a different supplier, because while I don't find the Canadian original roast to be drinkable (I tend to prefer the Dark Roast for smoothness), it was a far better tasting and smoother coffee experience, so colour me shocked that an American Tim Hortons beat us at our own game. I'd at the very least put this version on the level of the McDonald's coffee.

I wish there were more Tim Hortonses down here. (I like their coffee a LOT better than :censored:ing Starbucks.) I found a couple of them in NYC awhile back but I don't know if they're still there.

Unfortunately, Tims seems to have done away with the breakfast sandwiches I used to love so much. When I was in Montréal last May I stopped at one but the only sandwiches they had, were the ones with sausage and that damn spongy white egg stuff. Almost made me gag. In fact I think it DID.

Edit: On a completely unrelated matter, I was today years old when I found out that Gordon Pinsent was the real-life father-in-law of Peter Keleghan (Ranger Gord)!

You should try and find Made In Canada (aka The Industry). In Canada it's available to stream on Gem.

So first they discontinue my beloved Delisio pizza. Now Kleenex is being discontinued in Canada? Due to "unique complexities", whatever that's supposed to mean. What even is going on lately?

I'd cry about this news, but... you know. No kleenex.

Delissio has been replaced by Rustico. But it sucks. Same boxes, same font, same line names - but shittier quality. I suspect whomever owns Rustico bought the delissio marketing and shoved their sub par product in it.

Kleenex I'm willing to bet is one of those scams where they announce they are pulling it off the shelves for marketing purposes and then it returns the next year to great fanfare.

And it's not like we have a wealth of options when it comes to frozen pizza either. Around here, the two main options have been Delissio and the Dr Oetker brand, and when Nestle announced they were pulling Delissio out of Canada, then Dr Oetker with its many different lines seemed to dominate the shelves. But they're more expensive and smaller pizzas.

But the Kleenex thing baffles me.

Something I like taken away and replaced with something worse? Par for the course, sadly.

Dr. Oetker opened a facility to make pizzas around here about a decade ago. So I figured I should try them out, to support a company who was bringing jobs to the area. But I ended up not liking them nearly as much as Delissio, so never continued buying from them. May have to give them another try now that options have dwindled.
