Spoilers The Mandalorian season 2 discussion

Random observations: -

Nice to get a closer look at one of those crane walkers from Solo!

So, as expected Dyn's covert really was an extremist religious cult. Based on the name ("Children of the Watch"?) and the markings on the warriors that rescued him as a child, one assumes they had been part of Death Watch, before Maul shattered it.

I'm hoping for a scene between Bo Katan and The Armourer now. One assumes they know each other.

Frogwai's reaction to Bo Katan taking her helmet off just screamed "oh, dad doesn't like when they do that..."

Bo Katan's helmet is spot on, and the armour itself appropriately even looks like it did in Rebels rather than Clone Wars.

Still kinda wild we're getting a live action adaptation of a cartoon character played by the same actor...and Kevin Conroy only beat her to it by a few months!

"Dank farrik"? Isn't that what the blue guy in the very first episode said? Does Star Wars officially have a new curse phrase? And of course it would be used by Katie frakking Sackhoff!

Had a slight brain-fart moment trying to figure out why the other Niteowl warrior (I gather the actress is a pro wrestler?) had straps across her forehead...then I realised it was a hair braid. Not the first time we've seen a Mando with a more sensible helmet wearing haircut, though with the exception of Pre Vizla, all the noble blooded types seem to have the less practical ones. Part of my wonders if giving Sabine the pixiecut in the Rebel's epilogue was to make it easier for any actor that might play her in live action to avoid the helmet hair problem altogether.

Interesting to see Quarren and Mon Cala living and working together away from their home planet. Quite telling though that they still didn't seem to mix all that much at the cantina. A subtle bit of background storytelling.

Weird seeing a gozanti in live action...which is itself doubly weird since it's first appearance WAS in live action.
And I didn't quite believe that we were really going to see Ahsoka Tano until I actually heard her name spoken out loud. Can't wait for next week.
I'm still only like 60% sure she'll show up. Partly because I don't want to get my hopes up too much (despite, or because of how much we got in this episode) but also I wouldn't put it past Filloni to tease the audience like that.
One thing that sucked, the subtitles ruined the surprise of Bo Katan's appearance before she took off her helmet.
Honestly the "Heiress" title brought her to mind right from the off, though I tried not to get my hopes up...but as soon as I saw the westar-35's AND the helmet's markings, I knew it was her.
I wonder how she lost the Dark Saber in the first place .... Moff Gideon broke into her house while she was sleeping or something.
Well, I mean they cast Giancarlo Esposito, so I wouldn't be shocked he really can go toe-to-toe with even Bo Katan. He may even be Mandalorian himself; wouldn't be the first time one served the Empire...or even the second....or third...or fourth....or fifth.
That said, yeah I rather think he didn't win it in single combat. The fact Bo Katan is so adamant about getting it back implies he has no right to wield it (IIRC Ursa said something about this to Sabine, who similarly didn't fight Maul for it.)
I thought Sasha was Sabine as well but apparently Sabine is supposed to Look Asian.
She also doesn't wear Niteowl markings, have hair that isn't an explosion of colours, and like Bo Katan, she's generally goes with dual pistols, not one.
You would never guess that from watching Rebels though.
Sure you would, once you know what to look for.

What happened between seasons 1 and 2 of Mando? We had nearly zero leaks in S1, just some far away set photos and a rumour that George was consulted on Yoda’s species. This season has been a leaky pipe, so far everything has come true.

You can easily tell she’s supposed to be Asian in Rebels.

Why would there need to be a Fort Knox-level of "spoiler security" for Season 2 when Lucasfilm's strategy was to openly telegraph the season's narrative direction?

I enjoyed the episode. Wrapped up the story started in the previous episode and finally nudged the 'main objective' forward a notch. Action was good and the VFX was top notch (as always - I'm amazed what the can do on a 'TV' budget). It was fun to see Katie again. 8/10

I've seen so many reactions (not necessarily here but elsewhere online) where people have said, "bro, it's just a TV show, who cares? Baby Yoda's just a puppet! The eggs weren't real! Get over it!"

Well, I'm already "over it", but that's not the point. The point is, am I not allowed to engage in the show on its intended level? I'm not allowed to be involved in the story or have an emotional reaction to the dramatics?

Um, why the fuck are you watching TV/movies/theater/reading books, etc, then, if you don't get invested in what you're consuming? Are you really incapable of understanding how storytelling works?

For pretty colors and lights, I recommend a kaleidoscope.
Apparently we shouldn't react to the Child but should be excited over random Clone Wars and Rebels references.

Episode 5 is the one written and Directed by Dave Filoni, I imagine Ahsoka will show up mostly in that episode, episode 4 is probably going to be another ‘filler’ episode.

Erm, didn't this all supposedly take place a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away? Depending on how long ago, Asia might just have been a bunch of widely separated tectonic plates populated by primitive lifeforms or the Solar System might not yet have even formed. I'll be surprised if no-one complains that the colour of Ahsoka Tano's eyes has changed when we get to see her depicted.

Don’t be so naive, you know what I mean, she has Asian looking features.

I believe the creators of Rebels have come out and said as much as well.

I was being sarcastic, not naïve. Her cartoon depiction has Asian-looking features, whatever that means - Asia being a big place. By Asia, Americans usually mean China, of course. Frankly, I don't give a fig about the casting.

This was my first reaction too. Loved that we got the Chopper Base spiders (or at least a relative, I'm not 100% sure it was exactly the same design) in live action. They look much creepier here, and they looked pretty darn creepy back then.

So, for the people complaining that the "main" story hasn't moved. Notice how closely season 2 is mirroring S1 so far? The first episode was the job/quest episode. Overcome some obstacle on a mission. The second episode is the we-broke-our-ship, waylaid by aliens interlude. Hell, both second episodes even open with Mando being ambushed by thugs. If that pattern holds, the third episode should serve as a bookend to the first, and revisit the core narrative in a pretty major way.

The third episode appears to be the water planet. You've got the broken, beat up Razor Crest that was the first shot in the trailer, which clearly is picking up from where this chapter left off. If you rewatch the trailer, the dock scene (which appears to be where Sasha Banks' character appears) includes the Frog Lady, complete with egg tank, and what is presumably her husband. So, I'm guessing we get the Mando/Child boat adventure next week. And if I'm right about the structural similarities, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we either meet some more Mandalorians or if something happens that sends the story off in a different direction.

Called it.

They haven’t done anything of the sort.

The entire point of that trailer is to set up the season as being - and being about - Din's quest to find both other Mandalorians and the Jedi.

Huh Frog Lady was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker apparently.
Her physical actor is the same actor who phyiscally played Kuiil in Season 1.

Well it's hard to tell from Rebel's cartoon style.
But I'm almost certain people from Rebels have said in interviews that she was Asian inspired.

nothing in those trailers hints at seeing Bo-Katan or Ahsoka.

That wasn't my argument.

My argument is that because Lucasfilm was completely open about the narrative direction of Season 2, there was no reason for them to apply the same standards of secrecy to the season that they did for Season 1.

IOW, if you're not trying to keep things secret, it's not a problem if info gets out ahead of time.

I hope all the people freaking out about the child eating unfertilized eggs of a sentient species do not themselves eat the flesh of fully conceived, living sentient animals (pigs).

This is a wonderful false equivalency. For starters, my objective was that it was played for comedy. More than that, the eggs are given such high levels of importance in the story. This isn't just a being trying to have a kid-it's the last of "their line" and we can't got FTL because of it. The stakes are set high by the story itself.

It demonstrates a tone deaf type of framing that is off putting, or offensive, to some in the audience.
By Asia, Americans usually mean China, of course.
Not my experience.

Ep 11 was certainly the best of the second season so far. I hope it'll only keep improving.
