The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026)

Darth Vader wasn't the main character in the OT, so, not necessarily a problem. (Now, if Vader and Tarkin had worn masks in ANH, or Vader and the Emperor and all his officers in ESB and RotJ had worn masks, that would have been a problem.)
Do you feel the same every time you watch Terrifier, Halloween, Friday the 13th or Texas Chainsaw Massacre? There are so many movies out there where you can't see the antagonists face. That is part of the appeal of those characters. The mystery.

^ An antagonist, by definition, is not the protagonist of a story, and is thus not the main character. My comment was about main characters, as I've clearly stated.

I found that was the cost of the Sequels being more open ended and experimental (the Prequels were more coherent but chained to Lucas' more clunky directing).
I've cooled on the Sequels over the years but I do love the experimenting, and Luke's journey is one I find entertaining, Rey is a highly enjoyable character and I love Finn.

And I hope the upcoming film is entertaining. It doesn't need to do anything past that. The "deep Star Wars" trend I see is amusing to me. Star Wars was always treated as a child's franchise and Star Trek was the thinking person's sci-fi.

Now, Star Wars has to be about something. It has to be an event, a deeply moving experience, otherwise it isn't Star Wars. But still make it for children...

Man one of, if not the most positive youtube channel out there, is saying the movie is just, fine.

It's not perfect, it won't be a movie he revisits often. Not a lot of substance, but it is a fun movie.

All the reviews I have seen make it clear this is one to catch at home.

We're going opening day and hearing all the middling reviews...well, they're not surprising, but I had hoped maybe it would be better than the trailers made it look.

The reviews I'm by far the most concerned about are the ones saying that it feels like three episodes of the show stitched together. I know and expect this to be a lower-stakes, smaller-scale story but I need it to at least feel like a movie -- to be structured like a movie and paced like a movie.

I very rarely see movies in the theater because I really dislike the theater going experience, but I am going to try and catch this one on the big screen with appropriately adjusted expectations. There's just something about seeing a Star Wars movie on the big screen that makes me feel like I'm 10 again.

While I'd have much preferred a season 4 and 10 episodes instead of this adventure I'm gonna see it tomorrow regardless of the reviews.

I didn't have high expectations and quite frankly am not surprised what most reviews are saying: a decent, big budget, longer episode of the Mandalorian & Grogu going on one of their (in)famous* side quests with no big consequences or story arcs, because it has to appease to the "make it accessible / don't have to know the TV show" general public" that the creative people repeatedly stated.

*(hence PitchMeeting's Mandalorian coffee cream side quest)

Tickets bought. Seeing it Friday.

MERCHENDISING!! Holly Cow its Freaking Everywhere! I can buy a grogu from 1mm tall to a giant plushie.. Burger King.. just.. Everywhere! Making a Mint!
Yep. The force is strong with the merchandising.

This cake looked better than it tasted. Costed more too...

I don't know, maybe it's because I'm in a very blah mood at the moment due to things in the real world (don't worry, nothing too serious, mostly just inconvenient and tiresome) but it doesn't feel like a new Star Wars movie is coming out in theatres this week. I do plan to see it in theatres this weekend, but to be completely honest, it doesn't feel like The Event that the theatrical releases of every other Star Wars movie released in my lifetime felt like.

Maybe I'm just getting older or the aforementioned funk I'm in at the moment is really getting to me. I dunno.

This doesn’t bother me if they have a compelling story to tell.
Me either.

"....with no big consequences or story arcs, because it has to appease to the "make it accessible / don't have to know the TV show" general public"

So it won't be bogged down with " you have to have watched three seasons of a TV show to know what's going on? " The movie is more about having fun than appeasing a nerdy niche crowd? Sounds good to me.
